Summer Reading Program In June!!! A Universe of Stories _____________________________________________________________ Children ’s Book Review Submitted by Waconda Clayworth Nifty Thrifty Music Crafts by Felicia Lowenstein Niven Photographs by Nicole diMella Funny how a word catches your attention and stays there...some jargon Page 2 of 2 changes from year to year and some will endure and endear...I have always liked nifty thinking it meant neat and sweet. Summer vacation looms and whether you are doing a staycation with your kids and their gatherees or have an organized summer playgroup it is nice to read reasonable ways to make fun crafts with some recycled materials and some that are bought. The intros, the pop-up photos and good instructions make you want to make these delightful music makers. And do take a look at the other books in this colorful series... HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!!!!!! Octopants by Suzy Senior Illustrated by Claire Powell Every summer I try to find a silly or light hearted song that will be a happy refrain for the season. That is, it gets in your head and you hear it over and over...Quite a while ago I remember "who wears hot pants?" Recently, in Espanol...I really like papaya, melon........ This book is definitely silly with bright engaging pictures and a nonsensical narrative. So why read it? To have a funny start to the summer. To have a whimsical look at sea creatures in the ocean or at the CC Aquarium. Or you tell me........... Summer Holidays Around the World by Catherine Senker I return to this series for a serious look at summer holidays. This book is a nice adjunct to world geography practice and wonderment. For those with arm chair wanderlust, take a look at the pictures that portray what you and your kids would like to understand.
