Wine became the first baseball coach in Penn State history, last season, to produce back-to-back top three finishes in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions placed third in 2008, dramatically rallying from an early Big Ten deficit to shut out Indiana and Iowa en route to a three-seed in the conference tournament. Penn State finished with 17 wins in conference play. Over the past two seasons, Wine's squad has maintained a winning percentage of .600 against Big Ten opposition. Wine has 26 years of playing and coaching experience at the college and professional levels. Prior to coming to Penn State, he was an assistant coach in charge of hitting and defense at his alma mater, Oklahoma State. During his tenure there as an assistant, the Cowboys won one Big 12 Tournament championship in 2004, qualified for five NCAA Regionals, one Super Regional and a College World Series in 1999. He also oversaw talent evaluation, recruiting and office administration for the Cowboys. Wine is currently one of just 13 NCAA Division I coaches out of nearly 300 programs, that is a Major League Baseball alumnus. He played for the Houston Astros in parts of the 1986 and 1987 seasons. Born July 13, 1962 in Philadelphia, Wine, the son of former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Bobby Wine, graduated from Methacton High School in Fairview Village, Pa. HIs father, Bobby, has spent over 40 years in professional baseball and is currently an advanced scout for the Atlanta Braves. JOE KINNEY: Lafayette College, Head Baseball Coach: Joe Kinney enters his 11th season as the head coach at Lafayette, a program he has built into a winner. Since taking over in 1999, Kinney has continuously raised the talent level to the point where Lafayette is consistently in contention for a Patriot League title. In 2009, the Leopards made a dramatic run to the championship series, their second appearance in three years. As the No. 4 seed, they upended Bucknell in the semifinals to earn a date with Army in the finals. Despite dropping the series to the Black Knights, Lafayette ended its season on a high note, a common occurrence under head coach Joe Kinney. Perhaps the most notable year under Kinney came in 2007, a season for the record books, as the Leopards recorded a program-best 33 wins, including 17 Patriot League victories, and advanced to the NCAA Regional. The team's performance that season earned Kinney his first-ever Patriot League Coach of the Year honor. The success of 2007 came on the heels of a highly successful 2006 season in which the Leopards posted 27 wins, the second-highest win total in Lafayette history. Under Kinney, Lafayette has advanced to the Patriot League Tournament in four of the previous seven seasons and boasted 42 All-Patriot League selections and two Patriot League Players of the Year (Adam Rosenberg '04, Vince D'Angelis '02).. Prior to Lafayette, Kinney was the top assistant at Navy from 1992-99, helping guide the Midshipmen to four Patriot League titles and two NCAA East Regional appearances. His responsibilities included serving as the hitting and defensive coach, facility manager for the baseball complex, equipment manager and director of the Navy Baseball Camp. Before Navy, Kinney was an assistant coach at Lehigh from 1990-92 where he was the hitting, defense and conditioning coach. While there, he completed his master's degree in Secondary Education. Kinney's time at Lehigh followed a stint at Columbia High School in his hometown of Maplewood, N.J. where he was the junior varsity baseball coach and freshman football coach. Kinney graduated from Lehigh in 1988 with a degree in Economics. He enjoyed a four-year career and served as captain of the 1987 and 1988 squads. FRITZ HAMBURG: St. Joseph Univ., Head Baseball Coach: Fritz Hamburg has been named the head baseball coach at Saint Joseph's University on August 26, 2008. Hamburg was previously the associate head baseball coach at the United States Military Academy. Hamburg comes to Hawk Hill after spending the last eight seasons as the associate head coach at Army. He also filled the role of pitching coach, working with the squad's pitchers and catchers as well as coordinating recruiting efforts in the Midwest and West regions. Named the 2007 American Baseball Coaches Association/Baseball America National Assistant Coach of the Year, Hamburg helped tutor four Patriot League Pitchers of the Year. He has also coached 11 players that have been selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, including two chosen in the top 10 rounds. Six of his charges have received All-American honors. Prior to his stint at West Point, he served as an assistant coach at Cornell, New Mexico State, Cal-Poly Pomona, Georgia, and Ithaca. He has also served as a summer league head coach in both the Northeast Collegiate Baseball League and the Valley Baseball League. Hamburg, a native of Doylestown, Pa., began his collegiate playing career at Virginia Tech before transferring to Ithaca College, where he was an All-American catcher for the Bombers' 1988 National Championship squad. The 1989 graduate then spent a year in the Phillies organization before embarking on his coaching career. NOLAN NEIMAN: University of Maryland, Asst. Baseball Coach Nolan Neiman joins the Terrapins after spending the 2009 season as the assistant coach at the Florida Gulf Coast University, where he helped guide the Eagles to a 36-18 overall record. FGCU also won the Atlantic Sun regular season championship with a 23-7 conference mark. Prior to his stint at FGCU, Neiman spent two seasons (2007-08) as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at DeSales University, where the Bulldogs won the Freedom Conference Championship in 2008 and finished runner-up in 2007. Prior to that, Neiman served as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he served as the head coach for the New Market Rebels in the Valley League in 2008 and the Limeport Milkmen in 2007. Neiman attended DeSales University, where he was a three-year starter at second base. He helped lead the Bulldogs to four consecutive Freedom Conference Championships, four NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournaments, helped capture the school's first-ever Regional Championship and was a member of the only team in school history to advance to the NCAA Division III College World Series in 2003. At DeSales, Neiman earned All-Freedom Conference honors three times, was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year his junior year and earned American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Regional honors three times. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports management. .
