Community Engagement ᓄᓇᓖᑦ ᐃᓚᐅᓂᕆᔭᖏᑦ Baffinland has focused on promoting dialogue with the five ᓄᓘᔮᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᑦ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᖃᓗᐊᖅᓯᒪᒋᕗᑦ ᐅᖃᖃᑎᒌᓐᓂᕐᒥᒃ ᑖᒃᑯᓂᖓ ᑕᓪᓕᒪᓂᒃ ᐅᐊᓐᓇᖓᓂ ᕿᑭᖅᑖᓘᑉ ᓄᓇᓕᖏᑦ ᒥᑦᑎᒪᑕᓕᒃ, ᐃᒃᐱᐊᕐᔪᒃ, ᐃᒡᓗᓕᒃ, North Baffin communities of Pond Inlet, Arctic Bay, Igloolik, ᑲᖏᖅᑐᒑᐱᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᓴᓂᕋᔭᒃ, ᐃᓱᒪᒋᔭᐅᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᐊᒃᑐᖅᑕᐅᓂᖅᐹᖑᒋᐊᖏᓐᓂᒃ Clyde River and Hall Beach, considered to be most impacted ᐱᓕᕆᓂᐅᔪᒧᑦ. ᑕᒪᓐᓇ ᐅᖃᖃᑎᒌᓐᓂᐅᔪᖅ ᑖᒃᑯᓄᖓ ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓄᑦ by the Project. Ongoing engagement efforts related to these ᓇᓗᓇᓐᖏᑐᒃᑯᑦ ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑐᐃᕚᓪᓕᕈᑕᐅᕗᖅ ᑖᒃᓱᒧᖓ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᕐᕆᔭᑦᑎᓐᓄᑦ. communities has in generated broad-based support for the ᓄᓘᔮᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓂᖃᓚᐅᖅᐳᑦ ᑕᓪᓕᒪᐅᔪᓂ ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓂ ᓯᑎᐱᕆ Project. Baffinland conducted community surveys in each of 2016-ᖑᑎᓪᓗᒍ ᑐᑭᓯᑦᑎᐊᓂᖅᓴᐅᔪᒪᓪᓗᑎᒃ ᐊᒃᑐᐃᓂᕆᔭᐅᔪᓐᓇᖅᑐᓂᒃ the five communities in September of 2016 to gain a better ᐱᓕᕆᓂᐅᔪᒧᑦ ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓂᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐱᓕᕆᖃᑎᖃᒌᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᓄᓘᔮᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᑦ understanding of the potential impacts of the Project on the ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᓄᓇᓖᑦ. ᑲᑎᑦᑐᑎᒃ 205 ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓃᑦ ᐱᐊᓂᒃᑕᐅᓚᐅᖅᑐᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ communities and the relationship between Baffinland and the ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕈᑎᕕᓃᑦ ᓇᓗᓇᐃᖅᓯᓚᐅᖅᑐᑦ ᓈᒻᒪᓴᕐᓂᖏᓐᓄᑦ ᐱᓕᕆᓂᐅᔪᒥᒃ communities. A total of 205 surveys were completed and the ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᒫᓐᓇᐅᔪᖅ ᐱᓕᕆᖃᑎᒌᓐᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᓄᓇᓖᑦ ᓄᓘᔮᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᓪᓗ. results indicate a general level of satisfaction with the Project ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕈᑎᕕᓃᑦ ᓇᓗᓇᐃᖅᓯᓚᐅᖅᑐᑦ ᐃᓘᓐᓇᖓᑎᒍᑦ ᐱᓕᕆᓂᐅᔪᖅ and with the current relationships between the communities ᐊᒃᑐᐃᓂᖃᑦᑎᐊᖅᓯᒪᔪᖅ ᓄᓇᓕᓐᓂᑦ (ᑎᑎᕋᐅᔭᖅᓯᒪᔪᖅ 4). ᑕᐃᒃᑯᐊ and Baffinland. ᑭᐅᓚᐅᖅᑐᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᖅᑐᖃᑦᑎᓪᓗᒍ ᐃᓱᒫᓘᑎᖃᓚᐅᖏᑦᑐᑦ ᒥᒃᓵᓄᑦ The results of the survey show that overall the Project has ᐱᓕᕆᓂᐅᔪᑉ ᑭᓯᐊᓂᓕ ᑖᒃᑯᐊ ᐃᓱᒫᓘᑕᐅᓪᓗᑎᒃ ᐅᖃᐅᓯᐅᔪᑦ ᖃᑦᓰᓐᓇᐅᒐᓗᐊᖅᑎᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᑖᒃᑯᐊ ᐊᕕᒃᓯᒪᓚᐅᕆᕗᑦ ᐃᓱᒫᓘᑕᐅᔪᑦ made a positive impact on the local communities (Fig. 4). ᐅᑯᑎᒎᓇ ᐃᓚᖏᑦ ᐃᓱᒫᓘᑎᖃᑦᑐᑎᒃ ᐊᕙᑎᓕᕆᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓚᖏᑦ Most who answered the survey did not have concerns about ᐃᓱᒫᓘᑎᖃᑦᑐᑎᒃ ᓄᓇᓖᒃ ᐊᒃᑐᖅᑕᐅᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ (ᑎᑎᕋᐅᔭᖅᓯᒪᔪᖅ the Project but the relatively low number of concerns that 5). ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕈᑎᕕᓃᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓂᖃᑦᑎᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᐊᑐᖅᑕᐅᓂᐊᖅᑐᑦ
