Dr. Seuss (Aka Ted Geisel, Theo. Lesieg, Rosetta Stone) 1

Theodore Seuss Geisel, known to most as Dr. Seuss, wrote over 70 books by the time he died at age 87 in 1991. Most were written under the name Dr. Seuss (which, by the way he pronounced Soice—rhymes with voice, but others were written under the name Theo. LeSieg—which is Geisel spelled backwards—and one under the name of Rosetta Stone. One of the most amazing things he did for kids was create (with the help of friends) Beginning Reader Books. In the 1950’s a report came out that stated ill-literacy among kids was growing. They blamed it on BORING early readers. Dr. Seuss's friend and editor challenged him to write a story with less than 250 important words for early readers and make it fun for kids. And that is how The Cat in the Hat was “born” and Beginning Reader Books came to be. Dr. Seuss (aka Ted Geisel, Theo. LeSieg, Rosetta Stone) 1. 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, The (1938) 34.
