Qualifying teams advance to the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will be hosted by the University of Ore- gon in Eugene, Oregon, on June 5-8. The top 24 student-athletes per event per region (East and West) will compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships. Only the top 12 student-athletes per event per region advance to Eugene. In the relay events, only the top 24 relays per region advance to the preliminaries with 12 eventually advancing to the !nals. The NCAA East Region Championships is being hosted by the North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. Nearly 150 women and nearly 175 men representing Pac-12 schools will be competing for a spot at the NCAA Championships. For the !fth-consecutive year, OREGON swept the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships which was held at Cromwell Field at Katherine B. Loker Stadium on the campus of USC. The men’s squad claimed its seventh-consecutive team title, while the women took home their !fth straight. Accounting for 29 of her team’s points, ARIZONA STATE’s Keia Pinnick was named the Women’s Athlete of the Meet, while USC’s Bryshon Nellum was the Men’s Athlete of the Meet, after scoring 23 points. Oregon’s six-straight men’s titles is the !rst time since USC won 15-consecutive Paci!c Coast Conference titles from 1936-55. The women’s four-straight crowns is the !rst time since UCLA won eight-straight from 1997-2004. Pinnick was the winner of the heptathlon title last weekend, then went on to place third in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, and helped the Sun Devils place second in the 4x400-meter relay. Nellum, who has battled injuries that nearly ended his career, won the 200 meter and 400 meter, then helped the Trojans pick up a pair of points in the 4x400 meter relay. Nellum won a silver medal as a member of the USA’s 4x400-meter team at the London Olympics. On the men’s side, OREGON was far ahead of the !eld with 149.5 points, while USC !nished in second place with 108 points. In third place was UCLA who scored 98.5 points and ARIZONA STATE was fourth with 94 points. WASHING- TON came in !fth place with 76 points, followed by COLORADO in sixth place with 70 points and ARIZONA in seventh place with 67 points. CALIFORNIA (66) was eighth, WASHINGTON STATE (45) was ninth and STANFORD (43) was 10th. On the women’s side, the Ducks scored 139 points to stay ahead of ARIZONA, who scored 123 points. ARIZONA STATE was third with 110.33 points, followed by UCLA with 87.33 points and STANFORD was !fth with 86.5 points. 2013 NCAA West Regional Page 3 USC placed sixth with 81 points, WASHINGTON was seventh with 55.33 points, WASHINGTON STATE was eighth with 42 points and CALIFORNIA had 41.5 point for ninth place.
