THOUGHT, Nat. Sci.) is a scientific journal founded in 1994. by the University of Priština, and was published semi annually until 1998. Today, the University Thought - Publication in Natural Sciences is an international, peer reviewed, Open Access journal, published semi annually in the online and print version by the University of Priština, temporarily settled in Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia. The Journal publishes articles on all aspects of research in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Information technologies, Mathematics and Physics in the form of original papers, short communications and reviews (invited) by authors from the country and abroad. The University Thought - Publication in Natural Sciences serves as an interdisciplinary forum covering a wide range of topics for a truly international audience. Journal is endeavor of the University of Priština to acquaint the scientific world with its achievements and wish to affirm the intellectual potential and natural resources of own region. Our aim is to put forward attitude of principle that science is universal and we invite all scientists to cooperate wherever their scope of research may be. We are convinced that shall contribute to do victory of science over barriers of all kinds erected throughout the Balkans. Director Srećko P. Milačić, PhD, Serbia Editor in Chief Nebojša V. ABSTRACT In this paper we present the results of the Based on the most important dimensions of analysis of morphological characteristics of the carapace and plastron length and width, the Hermann’s tortoise from three localities in south- Hermann's tortoises from the south-eastern part of eastern part of Kosovo and Metohija. 75 adult Kosovo and Metohija are the most similar to the Hermann's tortoises (33 males and 42 females) individuals of the population from the southern have been analyzed. Morphometric analisys has part of the Balkan Peninsula (the southern part of been done on 7 traits. We considered the plastron Serbia and the northern part of Greece). In black pigmentation patterns and frequencies for relation to the populations from central and each pigmentation states were calculated. Females eastern Serbia, individuals from our studed area were larger than males for all morphometric traits. have higher values. Key words: morphometry, Hermann’s tortoise, Kosovo and Metohija. 1. INTRODUCTION Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni Gmelin, seas, the European part of Turkey, and further inland 1789) is distributed over the northern Mediterranean in the Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, region. It is distributed over most of the Balkan Macedonia, Romania and Bulgaria. Peninsula while in the western Mediterranean Up to now, some of the Serbian populations of (continental Spain, France and Italy, Balearic Islands, Hermann’s tortoise have been included in Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily) has an isolated morphological studies (Ljubisavljević et al., 2012), distribution. Although it is most prevalent in areas sexual dimorphism studies (Djordjević et al., 2011), with a Mediterranean climate, it can be found in (Djordjević et al., 2013), ecological studies inland regions of the Balkan Peninsula under the (Golubović et al., 2013) and distributional studies influence of continental climate (Bour, 1997), (Ljubisavljević et al., 2014).
