NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK WEEK ENDING 3/24/19 PLAYER OF THE WEEK DAVID CARDONA III • The College of New Jersey Junior • Catcher • Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth Cardona earns his first NJAC Player of the Week honor after powering TCNJ to a terrific week at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida. He hit .640 (16-for-25) in six appearances in the Lions’ 6-1 week. He racked up 12 RBI and five runs scored, and slugged .720 with a .643 on-base percent- age. He did not strike out once in 25 at-bats. Cardona recorded at least one hit and one RBI in all six appearances, with multiple hits and RBI in five of those. The first baseman also recorded 21 putouts and five assists. Cardona currently leads all NJAC hitters with a .514 batting average and is fourth with a .537 on-base percentage. The Lions returned from Florida with an 8-2 overall record, and open NJAC play this coming weekend. PITCHER OF THE WEEK DANNY SERREINO • Rowan University Freshman • Pitcher • Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty Serreino collects his second NJAC Pitcher of the Week honor after tossing seven flawless innings against Bradley University in Florida last week. He threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits. The All-American recorded 12 strikeouts against the Division I opponent, catching five batters looking. The Profs fell 3-0 on runs scored on the bullpen. Serreino is currently second in the NJAC with a 0.79 ERA, allowing just two earned runs over 22.2 innings so far. ROOKIE OF THE WEEK RICKY VOSS • New Jersey City University Freshman • First Base • Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Regional Voss earns his second NJAC Rookie of the Week honor after big effort for NJCU in a 2-1 week. He batted .400 (4-for-10) while starting all three games at first base. He added a .571 on-base percentage, walking four times, and a .600 slugging percentage, while scoring six runs and driv- ing in two RBI. He was flawless in 23 opportunities defensively at first base (22 putouts, 1 assist). In a 19-9 win over Staten Island on the road on March 23—NJCU’s highest output in a game in two years—Voss batted 3-for-5 with four runs, two RBI, a triple and a walk. His RBI triple in the fourth inning gave NJCU the lead for good (2-1). He also had a hit and two drawn walks in a one-run loss to No. 5/7 Swarthmore. The rookie first baseman currently has a flawless fielding percentage in 67 total chances. ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE WEEK MATT VOLPE • The College of New Jersey Freshman • Infield/Pitcher • Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen Volpe collects his first NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honor. He made his first career start by tossing five no-hit innings against Hamilton at the RussMatt Invitational. Volpe combined with reliever Nickolas Kleftogiannis to throw a seven-inning no-hitter in the first half of a doubleheader. He struck out six while walking just two in his five innings of work. He also contributed on the other side of the ball with a hit as a pinch hitter in a win over Southern Maine. .
