WYOMING COWBOYS POSTGAME NOTES Following a 37-14 win over Central Michigan on Dec. 22, 2017, in The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho Team Notes: • Friday’s game was the 15th bowl game in school history • Friday’s game marked the second-consecutive season the Pokes have played in a bowl game. • The Pokes are now 7-8 all-time in Bowl Games. • It was the first Bowl win since the New Mexico Bowl title in 2009, which was a 35-28 overtime win over Fresno State. • Wyoming is now 7-10 all-time in the post season. • The Pokes are now 2-1 all-time against Central Michigan • The Cowboys scored 21 points in the first quarter, the most in Potato Bowl history in an opening quarter. • Wyoming is 8-10 all-time in neutral site games. • Wyoming now has 38 turnovers on the season, which leads the nation. CMU lead the nation heading into Friday’s contest. UW has 122 points off of turnovers this season. • The Mountain West as a conference is now 2-1 this season • The 37 points was the most points by the Pokes in a Bowl game. The best prior to that was 35 points in the 2009 New Mexico Bowl. Offensive Notes: • Junior quarterback Josh Allen was named the Most Valuable Player of the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. • Allen was 11-of-19 for 154 yards in the game with three touchdowns. He opened the game 6-of-7 for 104 yards. • Allen finishes his career ranking eighth in total yards at UW and eighth in career passing yards and fourth in total touchdowns with 57. • Freshman wide receiver Jared Scott caught a 23-yard touchdown from Allen in the first quarter. His second catch and touchdown of the season. • Redshirt sophomore running back Kellen Overstreet rushed for 85 yards on 21 carries with a long of 20 yards. • Senior fullback Drew Van Maanen recorded his first career rush for five yards to end the first quarter. • Wide receiver C.J. Johnson led UW with 63 yards receiving including a 45 yard touchdown recpetion for a team-high seven touchdowns. Defensive Notes:. • The Pokes recorded a season-high five sacks. • Senior defensive end Nela Lolohea recorded a strip sack in the first quarter for his second forced fumble in his last two games. It was also the third sack of his career. • The Pokes recorded eight turnovers, a school record and Bowl reord for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. • Sophomore linebacker Logan Wilson forced a fumble in the second quarter for his third this season and fourth of his career. He later added an interception. • Wilson finished game with nine tackles and now has 120 this season. • Junior safety Andrew Wingard recorded his fifth interception of the season in the second quarter. It was the eighth of his career. He ranks tied for 10th in career interceptions at Wyoming with Jacque Finn. • Junior safety Marcus Epps recorded his fourth interception of the season and the ninth of his career in the fourth quarter. He is tied for fourth in school history in career interceptions. • Sophomore cornerback Tyler Hall recorded an interception his second of the season. • Sophomore defensive tackle Youhanna Ghaifan recorded his second forced fumble of the season in the fourth quarter that led to a touchdown. He tied a career-high with two sacks. • Junior defensive end Carl Granderson recorded his first career touchdown with a 58 yard fumble reocvery for a score. He joins Kevin Prosser with defensive lineman with touchdowns this season. Special Teams Notes: • Sophomore kicker Cooper Rothe went 3-of-3 on field goals and finishes the season going 15-of-18. • Freshman Tim Zaleski punted six times for 36.8 yards per punt. GOWYO.COM.
