DAY 2: COLOSSEUM & CHRISTIAN ROME Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Few empires have left such an important heritage, this is the Roman Empire. Today you get to learn about its power by visiting the Coliseum and the Roman Forum, over 2200 years of history at your feet. A walk through the Forum and in the Colosseum is literally a walk back in the past and history. The Colosseum - one of the world’s most iconic sights. Without an idea of the battles and politics that played out here, you'll only come to understand a small portion of its majesty. No visit to Ancient Rome would be complete without going a little further back – to the very beginning. In fact, we’ll explore the Palatine Hill, the legendary site where the warring brothers Remus and Romulus fought over land, and where Romulus founded the settlement that would eventually become Rome. We’ll also explore the Roman Forum – the heart of the Roman Republic that inspired so many modern democracies. Home to the bustling marketplace, ruled by moneylenders and shopkeepers, this was Rome at its finest. Here politicians held rallies before elections, soldiers marched triumphantly down the Via Sacra, and the Vestal Virgins decided if men lived or died. DAY 2: CONTINUED Lunch & Catacombs The Archeologia is a mix between culture and cuisine, between modern and antique, between good food and love for our history. The restaurant was founded around 1890, and it was opened for the archaeologist digging in the close catacombs of San Callisto, hence the name of the restaurant. Following lunch, we visit the Catacombs located across the street from the restaurant. We return back to the hotel in the late afternoon DAY 3: THE VATICAN Meals: Breakfast, Lunch A privately guided tour in the morning, followed by St. Peters Basilica and lunch. The Vatican City is the world’s smallest sovereign state with one of the richest art collections in the world, gathered by popes throughout the centuries. The Sistine Chapel is one of the most important treasures of the Vatican, of Rome, and of the whole world. It is renowned both for its frescoes and for the fact that the Popes are elected here. The building was built between 1473 and 1481, during the mandate of Pope Sixtus IV, from whom the name of the Chapel derives. All the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel are the work of Michelangelo Buonarroti, who took four years to paint the vault (from 1508 to 1512). According to the ancient Greek legend, the area around Sorrento was known as the Temple of the Sirens. Sailors of antiquity were powerless to resist the beautiful song of these maidens-cum-monsters who, without fail, would lure them and their ships to their doom on the reefs. Homer’s Ulysses escaped the sirens deadly lure by having his oarsmen plug their ears and strapping himself to the mast of his ship as he sailed past the fatal place. Today’s visitor to Sorrento has less to fear ad in the high season this unashamed resort town is bursting with holidaymakers, predominately from Britain and Germany. However, there is still enough southern Italian charm to make a stay here enjoyable, and is it handy for Capri and the Costiera Amalfitana. Declared one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its undisputed beauty and the uniqueness of its natural landscape, the Amalfi Coast is the land characterized by the oxymoronic combination between mountain and sea, the farmer and the fisherman. DAY 9/SAIL TO CAPRI via Private Ferry Meals: Breakfast, Lunch There are opportunities in life that will remain forever etched in your memory. Sailing to Capri is one of them. For your trip from Sorrento to Capri, we give you an exclusive Ferry directly to Capri for a visit of the island. Day 10: Free Day or Optional tour* (Limoncello Experience) Meals: Breakfast, Dinner *Optional Tour(at additional cost): The mountain, that thanks to the intense work of man, has been adapted to the demands of life over the ages. It plunges steeply into a sea, creating charming coves, deep fjords, cliffs, caverns, bays, natural arches, and small pebble beaches; natural elements that have created, over the centuries, an enchanting, sinuous, and seductive landscape: it is certainly not a coincidence that this area is known as the land of the Sirens, in Homer's epic poem "Odysseus". Typical houses, painted in warm pastel colors, follow the natural slope of the foothills of Mounts Lattari, leaning against each other, creating a very picturesque landscape. A day spent in an agritourism where we taste some genuine products and much, much more. We'll finish our day with a Farewell Dinner to come together one last time in Italy. DAY 11: All nice things come to an end! We'll have an early departure from Sorrento to Naples for your flight home or Milan Optional Extension END OF ITINERARY (Itinerary subject to change) .
