The Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance is the umbrella organization of the Chamber SWLA, the SWLA Alliance Foundation, and the Southwest Louisiana Partnership for Economic Development. These regional economic development organizations, each with its own Board of Directors, have combined resources to strengthen the business recruiting and retention efforts for Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis parishes. The Alliance combines the staff and resources of the three organizations on the third floor of the SEED Center at 4310 Ryan Street, Lake Charles. Chamber Mission Statement The Chamber SWLA is the voice of the Southwest Louisiana business community and promotes ongoing regional development to cultivate a higher quality of life for all citizens of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis parishes. With the support of its stakeholders, the SWLA Alliance Foundation enhances the economic footprint of Southwest Louisiana through strong regional part- nerships, workforce development, business recruitment and retention, and entrepreneurship. The mission of the SWLA Alliance Foundation is to promote and enhance the economic development and quality of life for the Southwest Louisiana region. Funds raised help our region through programs and pro- jects focused on workforce development, economic development, and encouraging entrepreneurship. In addition, the funding allows us to better market our region for development. The Foundation shares the same executive board as the Chamber Southwest Louisiana, but has a separate board-at-large which is made up of community leaders from the public and private sector. So, it is crucial that new solutions minimize costs and improve productivity. 7 Billy Navarre The Billy Navarre dealership started with one Chevy store in Sulphur when Billy was only 26 years old. Today, the entire auto group falls under the reign of dealer Ryan Navarre, Billy’s oldest son. The Sulphur store has grown to include a quick lube/car wash, service department and body shop. The Lake Charles location is much larger, with a Honda show- room and service department, a Hyundai showroom, and the Chevy/Cadillac store, service and body shop. The Lake Charles Quick Lube & Car Wash was voted best car wash in the area and has been utilized in many ways to give back to the community. Ryan Navarre has been working for the dealership since age 14. His father had him work in every department because he knew how vital it was to gain a thorough understanding of the customer’s needs and expectations. The transition into sales came at a time when Ryan was working in parts and service, painting vehicle sale signs after school. He was 18 years old at the time, and a manager asked him to test for sales. Although Ryan was hesitant to take the test, knowing Billy had hopes of sending his son to law school, he agreed and managed to earn the highest possible score. It took some convincing before Billy agreed to give Ryan a shot at sales. It was important to Billy that his children did not become lazy and spoiled and that they earned their own way. Ryan did not let his father down as he consistently earned top performer in sales. In fact, by age 19, Ryan and his father were featured together in the Lake Charles American
