D Darrell Evans 03:44 You know what I I treasure what you just said but let me tell you something. Let's just start here two Emmy Awards to Gracie I don't cut me off. I do Gracie awards. Chopped is in the culinary Hall of Fame. 50 television series 3300 episodes 500 million in television sales and you sit there and sip water. What in the world? What? Who is this guy? I'm blessed. I'm super blessed. From the minute you reached out to me, and I saw that you first of all chopped is I was telling you offline. The number one channel on my television is channel 231. It is the Food Network and I'm looking for one or four shows and chopped is one of them. Everyone in my life can attest. So glad to have here. D Dave Noll 04:34 Dave Noll, Creator of %22Chopped%22 Page 2 of 18 Transcribed by https://otter.ai Unbelievable. Thank you so much. I jokingly say chopped is my favorite show as well, obviously, but it's not a joke. When you are a part of something like that. At first you don't realize how big it is when chop started. It wasn't an out of the gate smash hit. That's not usually what actually happens on television. What usually happens is something builds and builds and chops did just that. It's started off doing, you know, better in the ratings than they expected. And then they pick up a second season, and you work really hard. And then they pick up a third season and, and it's years later years into it where you realize, oh, wow, oh my gosh, we've created something that people really care about. As a show creator, that is an amazing moment, because the first, you know, I started doing this in 2001, let's say, ish, 2000 2001. And which, by the way, is creating television shows and pitching the shows. And then being an executive producer, one of the many producers on a show, every show has, you know, 10 producers at this point. But in that role, for the first eight years that I did it, you know, you'd be at a dinner party, or you'd be somewhere and people would say, what do you do for a living? And I'd say, Oh, I create shows for living on they'd say, oh, which they have this look in their eye of excitement, like, wow, you would say a list of titles when they don't know one. They feel sorry for you. It's crazy. But they basically are like, Oh, you must be terrible at your job, sir. Because I have a television. And I don't know any of the things you're talking about. And so we had, you know, shows that would make it to pilot but never air or shows that would go for a season No one's ever heard of, we had a hit show on HGTV called don't sweat it. That lasted for hundreds of episodes, but no one had ever heard of it. It was just on, you know, finally chopped was the show where I get to meet people like you. And you've actually seen a bunch of episodes. And it's amazing for me, and I never, ever forget how wonderful it is. So thank you very much. D Darrell Evans 06:49 I don't know how many episodes are out there. I know. It's still running. It's over 10 years, I probably because of the reruns, I probably have seen 82% of them. Oh my god. I'm a fan. First of all, I'm an athlete. So let me tell you what's really interesting. And another friend of mine happens to be named Daryl as well. He has a daughter that plays competitive basketball, I grew up playing sports, we played sports. And I look at chopped as it's a culinary sport. That's what you created in my world. I live in the world of sports. When I'm in my off time, I don't play anymore. But I'm a fan for life of all sports. But I there's certainly my favorites. I happen to fall in love with food and cooking food 2003 2004. And so when I combine those two, and of course, I'm an entrepreneur, you're an entrepreneur. And entrepreneurship is a sport. So for me, it took a two loves of mine. And and of course, we know there's other shows that are similar and even on the same channel that we're talking about. But that one to me was the ultimate because you didn't get to prepare. Yeah. Talk to me about the concept that you would have. And I've seen seasons where the Dave Noll, Creator of %22Chopped%22 Page 3 of 18 Transcribed by https://otter.ai mystery box came from the fans. Yeah. I mean, talk to us a little bit about the concept and how you thought about this concept. Because, you know, people listening to this show are entrepreneurs, they're leaders. And everyone's got a story to tell. And everyone's in the world of creating. And I didn't understand this for a couple of decades in my entrepreneurial life.
