The hyphenated surname derives from the marriage of the Rev. L. W. Dopping with Miss Diana Dalyrymple Hepenstal, which event occurred on 30 July 1858. The Dopping family had an estate centred on the townland of Derrycassan while the much larger Hepenstal estate was situated in Wicklow and Dublin. The Dopping Family The earliest references to the Dopping family date from the mid-sixteenth century when the family was located at Frampton-upon-Severn in Gloucester. The first reference to a Dopping in Ireland is in 1640, when one Anthony Dopping M.P. was clerk to the Privy Council
