What’s Blooming On Campus? March 2018 The weather may not show it, but spring has returned to us this week. So far, this spring has been the longest winter ever! We are finally seeing some winter precipitation in minimal amounts and our soil temperatures are below average for this time of year. Although the weather patterns have been inconsistent, our typical bloomers for this time of year are still consistent. Although not pictured, our Bradford Pears were the first to show their white bloom, and they were quickly followed by our Hong Kong Orchid Trees. These trees line the walk way down the hill to Scripps Cottage. Our coral trees push out a striking orange/red bloom before they develop leaves. Our Western Redbud trees do the same with a bright pink bloom. As the temperature begins to warm and stay consistent, our Jacaranda trees will start to bloom, the grass will green up down Campanile Mall and the smell of Jasmine and Sage will be prevalent down Centennial Mall. Spring is a great time of year on the campus landscape. Please feel free to reach out to our Landscape Services team with any questions. There are certainly more plants that are blooming on our campus that are not listed here.
