Archaeological Investigations Project 2003 Desk-based Assessments East Midlands LINCOLNSHIRE Boston 1/56 (B.32.O023) TF 30444362 PE21 7TG GILBERT DIVE, WYBERTON FEN Commercial Development at Gilbert Drive, Wyberton Fen, Boston, Lincolnshire Cope-Faulkner, P Sleaford : Archaeological Project Services, 2003, 28pp, figs, tabs, refs Work undertaken by: Archaeological Project Services An archaeological assessment was carried out on the proposed development site. The assessment identified archaeology within the assessment area from the prehistoric to modern periods. No archaeology was identified within the proposed development site, apart from impacting alluvial deposits, the development impact was seen as limited. [Au(abr)] 1/57 (B.32.O016) TF 32754342 PE21 8AG LAND AT 138-142 HIGH STREET, BOSTON Land at 138-142 High Street, Boston, Lincolnshire Cope-Faulkner, P Sleaford : Archaeological Project Services, 2003, 26pp, colour pls, figs, tabs, refs Work undertaken by: Archaeological Project Services An archaeological assessment was carried out on the site. This identified that the development area was within the bounds of the medieval town and that medieval archaeology had been revealed elsewhere on the High Street. Evidence for occupation of the High Street for the post-medieval period had been found and a cartographic source revealed that part of the site contained an Inn in 1784. Much of the pipeline was routed to lower the impact on any archaeology. The Wragby end of the pipeline coincided with an Iron Age/Romano British site which has not been investigated. Medieval and Roman finds had also been recovered along the route and boundary features would also be affected by the development. The assessment identified that the pipeline would pass through areas where 900 sherds of post- medieval pottery wasters were recovered. Further pottery would be encountered during the development and possibly the remains of pottery kilns. Also two of the pumping stations may have impacted on medieval landscape features. The assessment revealed that the site was part of a 12th century grange farm for Stixworth Priory. Medieval pottery had been recovered from the site and earthworks for the medieval farm lay just outside the development area. The assessment identified that the development would only have a limited impact on any archaeology. [Au(abr)] Archaeological periods represented: MD 1/61 (B.32.O009) TA 28370068 DN36 5PR ST. MARTIN'S CHURCH, WAITHE St. Martin's Church, Waithe, Lincs Tann, G & Field, N Lincoln : Lindsey Archaeological Services, 2003, 26pp, colour pls, figs, tabs, refs Work undertaken by: Lindsey Archaeological Services An archaeological assessment was carried out on the church and its surrounds to assess the impact of church redundancy. The assessment identified that the church tower was Saxon in date, and the rest of the church was rebuilt during the 19th century. Much of the churchyard had been rearranged due to depopulation of the village during the medieval period. Any development in the churchyard would impact on archaeology and any alterations to the church would need Listed Building consent and Scheduled Monument consent. The sewer route was identified as possibly impacting on known and unknown pottery production sites and pottery wasters and kilns may be encountered. One of the pumping stations was identified as being located on the site of a 17th century house and medieval and post-medieval pottery had been recovered from the location. The road route would affect alluvial and waterlogged deposits. The assessment also revealed that even if the archaeology was protected in situ by an embankment, future development would isolate the archaeology and the embankment would dry out any waterlogged deposits. The assessment identified that archaeology from all periods may be affected by the development. Cartographic soures indicated that it has been occupied since the 18th century. The location also pointed to the site having potential for medieval archaeology. Part of the site would have been truncated by the fuel tanks for the former garage.
