WELCOME ADDRESS Assalamu’alaikum Wr.Wb. As the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia, it is an honor for me to be the host of this prestigious annual conference, the 11th International Conference on Malaysia-Indonesia Relations (PAHMI 11) in 2017. It is a great pleasure to welcome all speakers, presenters, and participants in this conference. The conference this year is organized in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and 60th anniversary of diplomatic relation between Indonesia and Malaysia. Over the decades, we have seen many ups and downs in the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia. We should be pleased that we have managed to keep the good relationship between these two countries. As an annual meeting for scholars, researchers, students, practitioners and individuals from Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries, I believe that PAHMI is a good opportunity for us to share our valuable knowledge, as well as to strengthen the friendship among us. As we all know, we are currently at an important stage towards the realization of ASEAN Economic Community; therefore, I hope this conference will produce fresh and progressive ideas to support our preparation in welcoming the AEC. I certainly hope we will be able to continue this collaboration to develop our field of study, both in Indonesia and Malaysia. On behalf of the Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our counterpart, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences University of Malaya, the organizing committees from the History Department and the Archeology Department of our faculty for your dedication to ensure the success of this conference. I wish you all the best and have a fruitfull conference. Thank you Wassalamualaikum Wr. Wb Depok, 14 Agustus 2017 Dr. Adrianus L.G Waworuntu Dean Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia WELCOME ADDRESS Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb, It is a great pleasure for us to welcome all participants of the 11th International Conference on Malaysia-Indonesia Relations (PAHMI 11) here in our campus, Faculty of Humanities Universitas Indonesia. This year, together with University of Malaya, we organized this event in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia. We hope that through this annual conference, all scholars, researchers, students, practitioners and individual researchers who are interested in Indonesia-Malaysia relations or other ASEAN issues could share and discuss experiences from various perspectives as shown in the subthemes of this conference. By doing so, hopefully this conference serves as a platform to stimulate dialogues on the bilateral relations and mutuality of both countries, as well as to provide insights into the regional and global dynamics of today. Moreover, this conference will also enhance and strengthen the collaboration between scholars, researchers, students and institutions of both countries. We realised that without your continued support, we would not be able to organize this conference. Therefore, we are truly thankful to the members of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Malaya as our co-organizer in Malaysia.
