Almost Time for Play Season By: Gabi Wojcik With the school year about 4 weeks in, I can’t help but think about this play season! I can’t wait until Ms.Ponti, Ms.Milo and Ms.Zuzic announce the 2012-2013 school play and start holding official auditions. Play Season is the best time of year. With Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas just around the corner, everyone is always so excited to audition and for the cast to be announced. I know I absolutely love being a part of the school play. It is a great way to get involved in school and a great way to make new friends and enjoy the school year. The directors are always beyond incredible and always create a spectacular show. In the recent years, Annie Jr. and Willy Wonka Jr. have been amazing. Don’t you think so, too? In my opinion, being able to become a different character and not having to be yourself by being a part of this production and setting a different mood… That is the best part. The whole experience is just surreal and trust me, you will never regret trying out for the school play. I hope lots of people tryout this year and show off their talents. I know the 2012-2013 play season will be one of the best! This year’s play will be The Little Mermaid, Jr. 4 September- October 2011 Celebrities and Drama By Victoria Fisher Do you ever notice how television and radio stations talk about celebrities more often when something bad or controversial happens to them? This is a topic that has always interested me. Do we, as human beings, like to look at successful peoples’ mistakes to make ourselves feel better? Why do we want to hear more about the negative vs. the positive? Is it to make us feel superior, give ourselves reason to feel like we’re better than someone who has much more fame, fortune, and even in some cases, happiness than us? In my opinion, yes. We like to look down on celebrities to make ourselves feel better about our own mediocrity. For example, on Friday, the lead singer of my favorite band, Green Day, was admitted to rehab for alcoholism. I was happy that he was getting the treatment he needed before he went on tour in support of his upcoming album “Trilogy”. I was feeling positive that he would get better, until I heard, with great surprise, multiple radio stations and TV shows talking about “Lead singer of rock band ‘Green Day’ going to rehab for alcohol abuse”.
