BOARD OF GOVERNORS 2019–2020 Biographical Sketches Lori O’Neill – Chair of the Board Lori is a corporate director and financial consultant for growth companies, after completing 24 years of service in a global accounting firm as a partner with various local and national leadership roles. Lori currently serves as a board member for Constellation Software Inc., Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Sierra Wireless, Ottawa Hydro, University of Ottawa Heart Institute, and as an advisory board member for the Dean of the Sprott School of Business as well as several other roles and community activities. Lori previously served as a board member and audit committee chair for a Federal crown corporation, a global publicly traded technology company, and a national non-profit organization. She obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Highest Honours) in 1988, achieved her CPA, CA designation (Ontario Honour Roll) in 1990, completed her U.S. CPA designation in 2003 and completed the ICD.D designation in 2012. In 2017, Lori was recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario as a Fellow, the highest distinction of the profession. Lori and her husband Tim are proud parents of two Ashbury graduates. Matt ’14 is a Bachelor of Commerce graduate of Smith School of Business, Queen’s University, and Katie ’17 is currently studying Commerce at Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University. Kevin Pidgeon – Vice Chair of the Board Kevin is President and Chief Operating Officer of the Nautical Lands Group of Companies, a globally- awarded construction and design company located in Carp, Ontario. He is a graduate of the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, Montreal. Kevin is an active member on the Ashbury Board of Governors and currently sits as the Chairman of the Property and Building Committee. Outside of Ashbury College, Kevin has served terms on the NCD Ski Team Board of Directors, NCO Board of Directors, Nexus Social Media Board of Directors and holds a certificate of Board Governance. Kevin has been involved in the Ashbury community for almost 20 years and spent 10 of those years as a coach with the Ashbury Senior Football team. He and his wife Natalie Tommy have two sons, Arthur ’13 and Kevin Brendan BL ’08. Richard Dixon – Past Chair of the Board Richard Dixon is a retired Human Resources and Labour Relations executive who has held senior roles at NAV Canada, CN Rail and Unisource Canada. Richard has also served as Chair of the Federally Related Employers-Transportation and Communications (FETCO) and has sat on the first Workforce Advisory Committee for the Mental Health Commission of Canada. He has completed his term on the Board of Peer Support Accreditation and Certification of Canada and currently serves on the Newfoundland Teachers Pension Plan Corporation Board of Directors. Richard has also served at an adjunct professor the Master of Industrial Relations program at Queen’s University. He has received the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2017. Richard holds a master’s degree in Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto and an honours bachelor of arts from King’s University College at Western University. His daughter Micaela, graduated from Ashbury in 2013. Terry Blake Terry is a retired finance professional, now involved in various governance, leadership and education initiatives. Terry spent over 20 years as a Chief Financial Officer for subsidiaries of multinational financial services companies working in Canada, New York, Paris, Bangkok and Hanoi, often involved in starting up subsidiary operations and turning around businesses in crisis. In these positions Terry worked for American Express, CitiBank, Assurances Generales de France and MBNA Bank. Terry serves on a number of not-for-profit boards including Shepherds of Good Hope and School of The Photographic Arts Ottawa (Chair) as well as having served as Chair of 1in 6 Canada. In addition, he provides leadership mentoring to young executives in the private and public sectors. Terry received his Chartered Director Designation in 2016. Terry graduated from the University of Windsor in Commerce and subsequently also qualified as a Certified General Accountant. Suzanne Blanchard Suzanne Blanchard is the Vice-President (Students and Enrolment) and University Registrar at Carleton University. In this position, Suzanne is responsible for overseeing Carleton University’s comprehensive range of academic and personal support services for students through the application process, over the course of their university experience and after they have graduated. She has a proven track record in managing and leading student-centred services as well as the knowledge, skills and experience to lead the Students and Enrolment portfolio in providing an exceptional student experience for Carleton University students. Suzanne’s accomplishments include the establishment of Carleton University’s Student Mental Health Framework which won first prize in the national category of the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CUABO) 2011 Quality and Productivity Awards, an extensive review of Carleton University’s advising services leading to the creation of new programs and services tied to student success and retention, the implementation of a broad student communications benchmarking initiative including innovative social media practices and most recently, leading a university-wide committee on the undergraduate student experience that has led to a number of important recommendations to improve student success. Suzanne graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons). She has worked in the field of post-secondary education since the late 1980s in a variety of positions including at the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, La Cité collégiale and with Carleton University initially as Director, Admission Services, then as the University Registrar and Associate Vice President (Students and Enrolment). Pierre Boulet At 19 years old, Pierre moved from Ottawa to Florida where he worked different jobs until he founded South East Installation Railing Company. He oversaw his multiple projects from California to Florida. Today, Pierre is currently President and Chief Operations Officer of The Boulet Group of companies developing some of the most innovative and exciting real estate projects in the National Capital Region. He also takes pride in its support of local community organizations and has been involved in a multitude of Charities, including past President of the Mathieu Froment Foundation and the Alzheimer Society of Outaouais. He has been an active participant in fundraisers for the Aylmer Food Centre, The Breakfast Club, CSSS (Integrated Health and Social Services) and United Way. Pierre is a member of the Ashbury College Property and Building Committee. Pierre is married and has a son in Grade 12 and a son who graduated from Ashbury in 2018. Dr. Benjamin Chow Dr. Chow is a Cardiologist and the Director of Cardiac Imaging at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. He is a Professor in Medicine (Cardiology) and has been recognized for his contributions to clinical Cardiology, education, and research. Dr Chow was awarded the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine Young Professor Award in 2006. In 2011, Dr Chow was awarded the 'University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine - Award of Distinction and Service'. This award recognizes faculty who have "distinguished themselves in their work, have made exemplary contributions through their work at the Faculty, whose work has greatly enhanced the Faculty's image and who have gone beyond the "call of duty" or their job description". Ben and Nancy have a daughter, Alyssa who graduated from Ashbury in 2019 and their son Jonathan graduated in 2016. Richard Emmerson Richard grew up in Ottawa and attended Queen’s University (BA Hons ’80, LL.B. ’83). After working as a corporate commercial lawyer on Bay Street in Toronto, Richard spent five years practising with a leading law firm in Seoul Korea. He spent the next 20 years with SSEK Legal Consultants in Jakarta representing multinationals carrying on business in Indonesia.He is the President of Emmerson Consulting based in Ottawa which provides various supporting services to the lawyers of SSEK, and business consulting services to clients seeking to explore trade and investment opportunities between Canada and Indonesia. For 18 years, Richard has served as a Director of the Indonesia-Canada Chamber of Commerce including one term as Vice-President, and now serves as its representative in Ottawa. He represented the largest international school in Jakarta, and was a guest lecturer at the University of Indonesia, Trisakti University and Gadjah Mada University law schools. Amongst his pro bono projects, Richard established Yayasan Emmanuel in 2000 which is a charitable foundation focused on education, homes and community services including food rescue and health services for 5,000+ children at any given time from scavenger communities in the Jakarta-Bogor area. He also established Yayasan Hidung Merah (Red Nose Foundation) in 2008 which provides a community centre organized around training in performing arts as well as funding for school and informal training to 280 children in a poor area of North Jakarta. Thomas Favret Mr. Favret, a senior member of the U.S. Foreign Service, lives in Mexico City as the U.S. Embassy’s minister counselor for management affairs. Prior to this assignment, he served in the
