JIM WISE THEATRE Join multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and recording producer Ryan Leslie for a special screening of his documentary Black Mozart on January 29, an event that prefaces NJIT’s celebra - tion of Black History Month in February. The film is an in-depth look at the independent artist’s travels across Europe without the support of a recording company or manager to make the album that bears the same name as the film. Leslie, who graduated from Harvard at the age of 19, is the founder of the media company NextSelection Lifestyle Group. He has produced recordings for artists in genres ranging from R&B and hip hop to gospel, as well as releasing award-winning albums of his own. Leslie's debut album, Ryan Leslie (2008), features the songs "Diamond Girl," "Addiction," and "How It Was Supposed To Be." He was nominated for a Grammy in 2011. Reflective of his varied accomplishments, Leslie has been an invited speaker at schools that include the Thurgood Marshall Academy in Harlem and the NYU Stern School of Business. In addition to philanthropy, Leslie says that he is passionate about technology and social media. Following the screening of Black Mozart , Leslie will host a conversation with the audience about today’s media industry, touching on topics such as how he uses social media to stay directly connected with his fans.
