School Jesuit High School is one of fifty-six Jesuit secondary schools in the United States. It is part of the world-wide Jesuit education enterprise that includes 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States alone. Jesuit High School of Tampa is a college preparatory school of grades 9-12 for male students of the greater Tampa Bay area. Its forty acre campus is located in a residential section of the city. Enrollment is limited to approximately 750 students. Community Jesuit High School was established in 1899 in downtown Tampa. In 1956, it moved to its present location on North Himes Avenue. The success of the school is supported by the progress of its over 8,100 graduates and by the continued presence of sons and brothers of alumni in the composition of its student body. Students commute to Jesuit from throughout a five county area of west Florida. Selective Admission Jesuit selects its students on a competitive basis. The selection is based on the nationally standardized High School Placement Test (HSPT®), previous academic performance, and the potential to succeed in a competitive college preparatory environment. Community Service The Community Service Program aims to integrate the value of serving others into the process of learning that takes place during high school. The goals of the program are central to the goals of Jesuit education. Freshmen are required to contribute ten hours, sophomores twenty, juniors forty, and seniors eighty hours to projects that involve them directly with people in need and that contribute to the good of the community. Selection to Honors and AP Courses Students must receive an invitation from the department offering the course based on past performance, test scores, and teacher recommendations. Accelerated Standing Students who have taken Algebra 1 or the first year of a language in the eighth grade and who show proficiency through our placement test may be placed on an accelerated track in these courses starting freshman year. Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy (JVLA) Starting with the 2014-2015 academic year, Jesuit High School will provide students with the opportunity to supplement their course-work by taking classes through JVLA. 4701 N.
