Here is just a sampling of Golf Classic Spartanburg, South Carolina located along the success your support helped provide in 2014-15: the thriving economic I-85 Corridor between • Upstate placed a school record 149 student- Atlanta and Charlotte. athletes on the A-Sun All-Academic Team. • Four Spartans were named A-Sun Scholar-Athlete Founded of the Year in their respective sports: 1967 Mario Blessing (men’s basketball), Rachel Reiling (women’s golf), Marvin Schmiege (men’s soccer) Enrollment and Lexi Shubert (softball). 5,500 • The South Carolina General Assembly recognized Oct. 15, 2015 men’s basketball player Ty Greene for winning the Country Club of Spartanburg Nickname Lou Henson Award as the best mid-major player in Spartans the country. • The softball team won the A-Sun regular season Colors and tournament championships, giving the Green, White, Black program four conference titles in three years. • The softball team made its third consecutive Affiliations appearance in the NCAA Tournament, playing in the NCAA Division I - Atlantic Sun Conference Tuscaloosa Regional hosted by Alabama. • Men’s golfer Ryan Cornfield earned an individual Chancellor berth into the NCAA Championship and finished Dr. Thomas Moore tied for 23rd at the Chapel Hill Regional. • Spartans Ty Greene (men’s basketball) and Marvin Director of Athletics Schmiege (men’s soccer) were named A-Sun Player Lee Fowler of the Year in their respective sports. • The softball team swept the major individual Intercollegiate Sports: postseason awards with Shellie Robinson as the Men: Women: Player of the Year, Lexi Shubert Pitcher of the Year, Basketball Basketball Karla Beasley Freshman of the Year and Chris Hawkins Coach of the Year. Baseball Volleyball • Baseball player Charlie Carpenter was named a Cross Country Cross Country Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.
