ANNALES ZOOLOGICI (Warszawa), 1999, 49(3): 265-328 A REVISION OF THE GENUS COLYDIUM FABRICIUS, 1792 (COLEOPTERA: ZOPHERIDAE: COLYDIINAE) P io tr W ęgrzynowicz Muzeum i Instytut Zoologii PAN, ul. Wilcza 64, 00-679 Warszawa, Polska e-ma il: p iotr@robal. m iiz. waw.pl Abstract. — World species of the genus Colydium Fabricius (Coleoptera, Zopheridae, Colydiinae) are revised. The following new species are described: Colydium burakowskii sp. nov. (Brazil), C. holynskiorum sp. nov. (Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Paraguay), C. manfredi sp. nov. (Mexico), C. marleyi sp. nov. (Jamaica), C.plaumanni sp. nov. (Brazil), C. slipinskii sp. nov. (Brazil). New synonyms proposed are as follows: Colydium chiricahuae Dajoz, 1992 (= C. glabriculum Stephan, 1989) and Irenytha sosyloides Pascoe, 1863 (= C. ruficorne Fabricius, 1801). Key words. — Coleoptera, Zopheridae, Colydiinae, Colydium, World, species revision. Introduction yielded new and new specimens - also from South America. Francis Polkinghorne Pascoe, an Englishman workingon the material collected by the famous traveller and naturalist Family Zopheridae (incl. former Colydiidae) constitute a Henry Walter Bates, described in 1863 a new genus and moderately numerous group of small Polyphagan beetles, species of beetle, Irenytha sosyloides. He noted its similar distributed in all parts of the world. They show a great ity to the European but in his new genus the morphological and biological diversity. A few groups are Colydium, pronotum was “perfectly smooth” - Irenytha was closely connected with insects galleries under bark and in synonymized with Colydium by Ivie and Ślipiński (1990) in wood. One of such groups is tribe Colydiini. It is well distin their catalogue of colydiid genera. Also in 1863, John guished by following combination of caracters: body more or Lawrence LeConte described a new species, Colydium less elongate, almost glabrous, distinct sublateral carinae on nigripenne, from North America. In 1877 Edmund Reitter the pronotum, apically widened and spinose protibiae, closed published the description of Colydium pascoei from procoxal cavities. It contains following genera: Colydiurn, Colombia. One year later the same author added further 7 Aulonium and Anarmostes.
