Over the Last Five Years, Lathika Vithanage Has Established Herself As One of Australia and Europe’S up and Coming Baroque Violinists

BIOGRAPHIE – LATHIKA VITHANAGE Over the last five years, Lathika Vithanage has established herself as one of Australia and Europe’s up and coming baroque violinists. On arrival in Europe, with the assistance of Italian Government scholarships, Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grants and an Australia Council Skills and Development Grant, Lathika was able to profit from the musical and career guidance of baroque violin professors including: Stefano Montanari, Susanne Scholz, Judy Tarling, Richard Gwilt, Gottfried von der Goltz, Petra Mullejans, Olivia Centurioni, Elisa Citterio, Enrico Onofri, Manfredo Kraemer and Amandine Beyer. Following training projects with the Montis Regalis Orchestra (A De Marchi), Festival Aix en Provence opera orchestra (L G Alarcon) and the Ambronay European Baroque academy (S Kuijken), she was launched into the freelance baroque music scene in Europe. She is regularly called to perform and record with high profile European groups including: Accademia Bizantina (Italy), Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (Germany), Ensemble Clematis (Belgium), Concerto Italiano (Italy), La Cappella Mediterranea (France), Montis Regalis orchestra (Italy) and La Divina Armonia (Italy). Her passion lies in chamber music and single string work which she gets to explore not only with the two ensembles of which she is a founding member since 2011: Il Caleidoscopio and AbChordis Ensemble, but also with established European groups including; Concerto Italiano, Ensemble Clematis, Cappella Mediterranea, Montis Regalis orchestra, Les Cyclopes and Silete Venti. Lathika regularly returns to Australia to take part in the flourishing baroque music scene there, and is currently completing a specialised masters in baroque violin performance at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Amandine Beyer. .
