In order to meet it’s non- coking coal requirement, the company requested Ministry of coal (MOC) GOI, for allotment of a coal block. The Ministry of Coal has allotted a coal block which is a part of the Rawanwara North Coal Block, falling in the Pench Kanhan valley coal field in the Chhindwara district of the state of Madhya Pradesh. MOC has allotted the block having 1670 hectare area vide their letter no. 38011/11/2006-CA-I dated 29th May 2007. This has been confirmed through a letter from MOC vide reference no. 13016/30/2009-CA-I dated 9th February 2010. An underground mine by name Rawanwara North U/G Mine has been planned based on the allotted area of 1670 hectare. The committee suggested various Terms of References (ToR) for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) Report through its letter no. J-11015/252/2009-IA.II (M) dated 30th November, 2009 and additional TOR dated 17.08.2011, which are incorporated in the EIA/EMP report at their respective places. 1.2 DETAILS OF THE PROJECT Table - 1 S. Rawanwara North Coal Block Underground Coalmine Project (1.4 MTPA over 16.7 sq.km.) in Pench-Kanhan Valley Coal Field, District:Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) Executive Summary of EIA Report i) Areas have been measured from seam – folio plans with the help of planim for all the segments made by different iso – chores line in the allotted area (A. A.) ii) Thickness of coal seams has been computed from the iso – folio plans. For the area falling between two successive iso – chores, the average of these two iso – chores has been taken as thickness of coal in that part of the block. iii) The standard formula which is universally acceptable is used for calculating gross reserves. R = A x T x G Where, R = Reserves in Tonnes A = Area in Sq. m. T = Thickness in m G = Specific Gravity iv) Details of specific gravity considered in the reserve estimation are: GRADE K.Cal/Kg Sp. Gravity A > 6200 1.40 B 5600 – 6200 1.45 C 4940 – 5600 1.50 D 4200 – 4940 1.55 E 3360 – 4200 1.60 F 2400 – 3360 1.68 G 1300 – 2400 1.76 v) The net proved Geological reserves have been arrived at by giving reducible allowance of 10% as per norms. Rawanwara North Coal Block Underground Coalmine Project (1.4 MTPA over 16.7 sq.km.) in Pench-Kanhan Valley Coal Field, District:Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) Executive Summary of EIA Report Mineable Reserves The part of net geological reserves which cannot be considered for mining is deducted from net geological reserve to arrive at the mineable reserve. In the present system of mining by bord and pillar with caving the following reserves have been deducted from net geological reserve, which have got locked and cannot be extracted. 1. Reserves beneath & around river/nalla 2. Reserves beneath and around habitation 3. Reserves against barrier boundary 4. Reserves in protection pillars 1. Reserves beneath & around river/nalla There are riverine areas of river Pench and of its important tributary Ghatmali nala.
