ISWAR CHADRA VIDYASAGAR Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was a great social worker. OR The great men who were born in India, Pandit Isware Chandra Vidyasagar was one of them. He was born on 26th September in 1820 at Birsingha in Midnapore. His father’s name was Thakurdas Bandhaypadhay and mother’s name was Bhagabati Devi. First he was admitted at village pathsala for primary education. He was a meritorious student from childhood. He joined Fort William College as a head pandit in Sanskrit department. He wrote many books like “Barnaparichoy” and “Bodhoday”. In the year he established many schools to educate the village girls. He was awarded the “Vidyasagar” title from Sanskrit College. He passed away on 29th july in 1891. Although he is no more with us, he will live forever in our memory for his great contribution. RABINDRANATH TAGORE Rabindra Nath Tagore was the greatest poet of Bengali literature. He was born on may7, in 1861 at Jorasanko in Calcutta. His father’s name was Mahaushi Debendranath Tagore and mother’s name was Sarada Devi. He was admitted to the Ordenta seminay and the metropolitan institute for his primary education. But he could not accept the conversonal education system. So he continued his studies at home under home tutors. After that he went to England for higher studies. Rabindranath started writing poems, songs, drama short story etc singe his early childhood. He wrote many books like Gitanjali, Noukadubi, Bouthakuranirhat etc. In 1913 he got the most prestigious Nobel prizes for his outstanding contribution in the field of literature. He established Visva Bharati University of Shantiniketan in 1902. Rabindranath was not only a great author but also a great patriot. He started “Raksabandhan’ in order to make strong unity between the Hindu and the Muslim. Besides he gave back knighthood in protest against the Jallianwala Bagh killing 1919. He passed away on august 7, 1941. But his great contribution has made him alive in our mind. It is said that England is proud of Shakespeare, we, Indians, are proud of Rabindranath Tagore.
