Best regards, Norm Silverstein, WXXI President [email protected] LEARN THE NTS Gettysburg Address TO COMMEMORATE THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GETTYSBURG ADDRESS, KEN BURNS AND PBS have launched a major national public outreach campaign to challenge everyone across the country, especially students, to video record themselves reading or reciting the Gettysburg Address. EVE WXXI invites kids and adults of all ages to learn the 272- word Gettysburg Address, and from Jan. - March 2014. You can create your own video reciting or reading the & speech and upload it to our web site, WXXI.org/the address. WXXI will also host mini-recording sessions for kids and adults interested in reciting or reading the S famous speech in early spring. Stay tuned. The campaign will continue throughout the year and is inspired by the subject of Burns’ film THE ADDRESS, which tells the story of the Greenwood School in Putney, Vermont and its students — boys ages 11 to 17, all of whom face a range of learning differences EW — who each year are encouraged to memorize, KEN BURNS practice and recite the Gettysburg Address. Born February 9, 1944, into a family of sharecroppers in rural Georgia, she came of age during the violent racism and seismic social changes of mid-20th-century America. Her mother, poverty and participation in the civil rights movement were the formative influences on H her consciousness, becoming the inherent themes in her writing. The first African-American woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for Literature, Walker continues to shine a TS light on global human rights issues. Her dramatic life is told with poetry and lyricism, and includes interviews with Steven Spielberg, Danny Glover, Quincy Jones, Howard Zinn, Gloria Steinem, Sapphire and Walker herself.
