Milestones offer the chance to celebrate and to reflect on accomplishments. They also present an opportunity to chart a new course and to devise a plan for moving forward. For the Foundation, 2013 was all about moving forward, and it proved to be a busy year! We distributed $2.2 million in educational scholarships and grants to community organizations working to support human services, arts and culture, the environment, healthcare, animal welfare, and recreation. We finished 2013 hitting a milestone of investing more than $50 million back into the community since our inception in 1989. We are pleased to report that of the $4.9 million in new gifts to funds at The Cape Cod Foundation in 2013, a large portion of those gifts were bequests for unrestricted endowment, enabling us to significantly increase our discretionary grantmaking pool to respond to pressing community needs. We continue to play a key role in implementing the Cape-wide Youth Action Plan, which provides a common vision and a roadmap for the many organizations working to support youth and families on Cape Cod. Central to this plan is the ability to measure progress and encourage accountability. The plan also provides the organizations and networks increased opportunities to expand partnerships and leverage resources. Our Board engaged in strategic planning and developed goals for the continued growth of the organization. With the conclusion of 2013, Jennifer Roberts completed her term as Board Chairman. Jennifer’s commitment and leadership were tremendous assets to the organization, and we are grateful to her for her steadfast dedication in serving the Foundation and the Cape community in this role. We are proud of what this organization has accomplished and optimistic about what the future holds. We are honored to work with our donors and community members to support the committed people and organizations that keep Cape Cod alive and thriving. Let’s all keep moving forward, together! With our best wishes, Eileen C. Miskell Kristin O’Malley Board Chairman and President Executive Director THE CAPE COD FOUNDATION | ANNUAL REPORT 3 TOWN FUNDS The Falmouth Fund (est. 2009) and The Chatham Fund (est. 2011) are area funds designed to meet the unique needs of their respective communities.
