Wildcards & Fugitives

Wildcards & Fugitives

Wildcards & Fugitives Joyce McGrath Gallery, State Library Victoria 5 May – 30 September 2016 Catalogue and subject index Catalogue compiled by Dominique Dunstan & Andrew McConville Wildcards and fugitives The card catalogue was once the great cornerstone of collection access. Now it sleeps in the catacombs, overtaken by the information revolution. There are still some unused cards about, gathering dust. What is to become of them? Over the years the little red pencils have disappeared from public desks in their thousands, recording innumerable notes, ideas and messages in their travels. This exhibition unites these two icons of the library – catalogue cards and little red pencils - the obsolete and the ephemeral, to see what they might become released from the rules of organized knowledge. Free to please themselves what would they tell us? What should they remember? Dominique Dunstan Subject Author catalogue Index # 1.
