Completed Westminster School (London); Undergraduate and postgraduate studies at University College London (UCL) and London School of Economics (LSE); 1972 BSc - International Relations, UCL; 1973 MA - Economy and History, UCL; 1975 MSc - Economics, LSE; Early 1980s – active supporter of the Polish Solidarity Campaign; 1988-95 lecturer, School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University of London; 1992-95 lecturer, Centre for Economic Performance, LSE; 1 1995-2000 and 2005-6 – lecturer and professor at Central European University in Budapest, Dean of the Economics Faculty. Co-editor of the journal “Communist Economies” - together with Ljubo Sirc; 1989-91 Advisor to Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Leszek Balcerowicz; Early 1990s - advisor to the Russian Government on macroeconomic policy; 1995-2000 and 2005-06 Head of the Department of Economics, Central European University, Budapest; 1997-2000 Chairman, Macro-economic Policy Committee, Polish Ministry of Finance. 1991 - one of co-founders of the Center for Social and Economic Research (Polish think tank); 2002-04 Economic Advisor to the Governor of National Bank of Poland; 2004-07 Economic Advisor to the Board of Bank PEKAO SA; Since 16 November 2007 Finance Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Recipient of awards: The Banker - European Finance Minister of the Year (2009); Emerging Markets, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC -Finance Minister of the Year for Emerging Europe (2009); Financial Times - 2nd best Finance Minister in Europe (2010). Author of numerous publications on European enlargement, monetary and exchange rate policy, and transformation of post-communist economies. 2.
