Volunteer programme 2015-16 project highlights: 15,436 trees planted with primary-aged children in parks, woodlands, school grounds and open spaces, 13,887 free fruit trees planted in pupils gardens and school grounds, National Tree Week (Dec16) promoted 5 high profile media events and Downs Celebration event (April 2016), Lead Volunteer training in October recruited and trained 30 Lead Volunteers, 7 new community woodlands planted with partner organisations. 1. Education Highlights: 132 schools engaged with project 154 assemblies delivered in 132 schools 12 workshops delivered 30 schools attended community planting events Worked with partners such as taking school’s to the Crumble Rumble and Orchard Planting at Tyntesfield, working in schools with RSPB, partnered up with Avon Wildlife Trust on planting events and delivered a weekend educational programme at the Festival of Nature. 3. Fundraising 2015/16 The team worked closely with schools or local communities and the Neighbourhood Partnerships on designing the tree plans, planting and where required upgrading the whips to standard size trees. OneTree Per Child Bristol planting events November 2015 – March 2016 Highlights: 20 school grounds planting events planting 1792 trees 43 community planting events, planting 13,644 trees 1987 children involved in planting events 13,887 free fruit trees planted in pupils gardens and school grounds Three community orchards have been planted – 2 of which will be maintained by the community group. The community planting events engaged the local primary schools as part of the One Tree Per Child Bristol program in addition to individuals, community and corporate groups. See table below for summary of individual planting events. 5. Volunteer programme The OTPC Lead Volunteer training programme was launched in Summer 2015 to recruit, train and engage volunteers in our winter planting season, with the aim of encouraging longer term engagement in tree maintenance across the city.
