JICMS Uniform Dress Code Approved Uniform Items The following items have been selected as the acceptable uniforms for students at JICMS. All items may be worn year-round as appropriate. Acceptable uniform items may be purchased from various stores such as French Toast, Old Navy, and Land’s End. Please contact the middle school administration for clarification before purchasing uniform items. ACCEPTABLE TOPS: UNACCEPTABLE TOPS: -POLOS -POLOS o Solid in color o Form-fitting or see through tops o White polo with undershirt/tank top o Button down dress shirts o Loose fitting, modest in cut and style o Stripes, prints, or other designs o Must have functional buttons up to the collar o Sleeves that extend past the wrist o Logos or emblems that are smaller than the size o Black polo in combination with black pants except of a quarter when band students need to dress up o Only have the top button undone o Thumb holes o Long or short sleeved o Pockets o Must be tucked in at all times -SWEATERS AND SWEATSHIRTS -SWEATERS AND SWEATSHIRTS o Sweaters, sweater vests, and sweatshirts worn o Hoodies, of any kind over tucked in polos o Ponchos, fleece, or fleece-type materials o Uniform style sweaters or sweater vests that are o Stripes, prints, or other designs solid navy blue, gray, or white in color o Wearing sweaters/sweatshirts backwards, just over o JICMS school sweatshirts-navy blue or gray the arms, or tied around the waist o Solid plain navy blue or gray sweatshirts o Sleeves that extend past the wrist o Must come to hip level and worn properly o Oversized or tight fitting o JICS spirit-wear may be worn on Fridays only o Thumb holes ACCEPTABLE UNDERSHIRTS: UNACCEPTABLE UNDERSHIRTS: o Solid long/short sleeved T-shirts, turtlenecks, o T-shirts, camisoles and tank tops that are visible camisoles and tank tops that are only visible at anywhere other than the neck/collar the neck/collar (The sleeves of long sleeved o Designs or labels on shirts worn under polos shirts may be visible) o Thumb holes ACCEPTABLE BOTTOMS: UNACCEPTABLE BOTTOMS: -PANTS -PANTS o Pants must be loose at calves, ankles, and o Pants that cannot move independently of the whole hemlines; (They may not be skorts, or jumpers that are the proper length worn as headbands either.) o No chains or lanyards of any kind on top of clothing or hanging from pockets o Sunglasses may not be worn in the building o Colognes, perfumes, body sprays, hairspray, etc. are not to be applied or sprayed in classrooms or hallways ACCEPTABLE HAIRSTYLES: UNACCEPTABLE HAIRSTYLES: o Hair must be clean (washed), neat, well- o Hair colors of a non-natural color groomed, and out of eyes o Designs, names, lines, or shapes shaved in the hair o Natural colors, colors that would grow naturally o Man hair buns, Mohawks of any type out of a person’s head o Bangs/hair falling into or over eyes o Girls may wear hair accessories that are not distracting in color and size o Hair covering part of a student’s face must be tied back in a ponytail The CROWN Act, which stands for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,” is a law that prohibits race-based hair discrimination, which is the denial of employment and educational opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locs, twists or bantu knots. ACCEPTABLE MAKEUP AND NAILS GIRLS UNACCEPTABLE MAKEUP AND NAIL POLISH: ONLY o Shiny body glitter, un-natural makeup o Makeup must look natural. o Boys may not wear makeup or nail polish o Nail Polish color and decorations must not be a distraction o “Fake” nails may not be pointed or longer than 3/8” from fingertip ACCEPTABLE ACCESSORIES: UNACCEPTABLE ACCESSORIES: o Modest jewelry o Non-jewelry items worn as accessories or jewelry (i.e. o Earrings no larger than 1 inch. Measured from animal chains, animal-like collars, spiked chokers, the top to the bottom of the earring, not at the safety pins, or specialized ear jewelry) piercing o Cartilage piercing/gauging of the ears o Only two earrings per each ear lobe o Studded bracelets or wristbands o No more than 2 necklaces o Sweatbands, bandanas, scarves o No more than 2 bracelets per wrist, each ½ inch o Scrunchy/hairbands on wrist or less in width o Smart Watches or activity trackers with photo/camera, o If one bracelet is worn, width must be no more internet, text, or phone capability (ex: Gizmo, Misfit, than 1 inch Fitbit, Apple, etc.) o Digital/analog watches count as a bracelet with o Do-rag, bandanas, tongue rings, barbells, lip rings, bands not to exceed 1 inch piercing other than the ear lobe, or visible evidence of o Hairband/Scrunchy must be worn in hair and tattoos, henna, or body piercing have no visible logo (i.e. Nike) o Accessories that could potentially distract from the mission and vision of JICMS ACCEPTABLE OUTERWEAR: UNACCEPTABLE OUTERWEAR: o Coats and winter jackets may only be worn prior o Jackets and winter coats in classrooms to school and after school and must be properly o Hoodies of any kind stored on hooks or in lockers o Gloves in classrooms o Hats of any kind must be removed upon entering the building ACCEPTABLE FRIDAY JEANS: UNACCEPTABLE FRIDAY JEANS: o Pants must be loose at calves, ankles, and o Tapered style, hip-huggers, low-rise, tight fitting, hemlines; undergarment lines must not be spandex, or stretch material visible o Cargo, painter style, baggy, sagging o Denim blue, black, gray, khaki in color (solid, o Pants that snap back against the outer thigh when consistent color only) pulled away are considered too tight o Five pocket jeans to include the coin pocket o Jeans with holes, frayed patches or edges o Worn with a belt and a polo shirt or JICMS spirit wear t-shirt that is tucked in o Denim capris of appropriate length o Clean boots may be worn with loose jeans o Jeans may be tucked in to boots ACCEPTABLE CASUAL DRESS: UNACCEPTABLE CASUAL DRESS: o Pants must be loose at calves, ankles, and o Offensive T-shirts includes references
