CUSA was founded as an amalgamation of Calgary Men’s Soccer League and Calgary United Soccer. In its inaugural season, CUSA operated leagues for approximately 30 teams and 600 players. We should all be proud of the strength of our Association and of our growth. This past year is a year we will remember for a very long time as our lives and society had to face something, we never even could have imagined with the shutdown due to COVID-19. It meant that our 2019-20 Indoor Season ended abruptly and the suspension of the 2020 Outdoor. As we wait to resume full operations, it was great to see all our members respect the situation and follow the guidelines while patiently waiting a return to the pitch. CUSA is always looking for new ways to give back to the community and especially within the soccer community in our city as soccer can be used as a positive social change. CUSA continues to give back to the community which would not be possible without the support of the members. We have continued our support of KidSport with a donation of $9,429 over the past 12 months. This support will be even more in need in the near future as we recover from the impact of COVID-19. In addition, CUSA is also very proud to support Soccer Without Boundaries with a donation of $4,712 over the past year. We also were able to provide some kids of this great program the opportunity to escort the finalists at both the Indoor and Outdoor Nations Cup. We are very proud to work with the Drop-In Centre and the Calgary Police Service in presenting the Goodwill Match at our Indoor Nations Cup. The Goodwill Match started September 16, 2017 on a field in Bridgeland and has become a must-see event at the Indoor Nations Cup with hundreds of fans to cheer on the teams. CUSA is also a proud supporter of the Woodall Cup that took place in June 2019 between the Edmonton Police Service and the Calgary Police Service in remembrance of Constable Daniel Woodall who lost his life in the line of duty. We are looking forward to continuing our support of the above matches and for new opportunities to give back to the community. As we celebrate the year ahead and our 40th anniversary we look forward to the transformation of the new building at the Broadview field reflecting the status of Broadview being the best pitch in the city. The building will be barrier free, sporting a high quality design and clean attractive look while offering our members upgraded dressing rooms and showers, an officials room, and family friendly public washrooms. It is our hope that our members will embrace this facility as a long term hub to be active, connect and develop a shared sense of belonging. We will build on each season as opportunities and AHS/ASA guidelines allow. We will always have a home for our membership choosing to take some time away from sport. We look forward to welcoming them back too. Together we will raise awareness of our association and provide a home for the beautiful game for all who wish to be involved. Together for the love of the game. Sincerely, Rajinder Uppal 4 | P a g e Financial Highlights CUSA’s financial position remains strong with the Board and Administration working to ensure that members receive good value for their fees. 2020 2019 2018 2017 League Registration Fees 1,724,480 1,787,756 1,777,997 2,005,093 Sponsorship Revenue 5,500 2,000 4,000 0 Total Revenues 2,318,020 2,472,861 2,381,606 2,828,379 Less: Total Expenses 2,194,774 2,341,052 2,371,423 2,494,179 Less: Contribution to Future Facilities Fund 98,600 94,200 108,200 114,800 Change in Unrestricted Net Assets 146,975 159,004 14,763 349,200 Cash 682,842 313,543 428,730 397,292 Investments (Current & Long Term) 1,622,029 1,830,790 1,383,627 1,633,838 Total Assets 2,504,245 3,268,289 3,094,986 3,167,593 Total Liabilities 484,992 1,372,282 1,335,468 1,418,258 Net Assets 2,019,253 1,896,007 1,759,518 1,749,335 5 | P a g e Executive Summary CUSA Business Plan 2017 – 2022 Calgary United Soccer has incredible potential.
