This issue brings news of recent developments in DMSE and of the accomplishments of our faculty, staff, and students. I am pleased to note that Professor Ned Thomas will succeed me as Head of DMSE effective January 2006. Ned and I are working closely together to ensure a smooth transition to the next leadership team of the Department. = The major new initiatives we launched over the past sever- al years are now bearing fruit.
