This is not a smart strategy for any business, especially when times are good. A market can change quickly. While good is the enemy of great, complacency and short-term thinking is the enemy of sustained marketing breakthroughs. Accessibility No one enjoys making cold calls all day long. When you join a chamber and actively get involved, you’ll discover that meeting prospects who can refer you to the key contacts you’re trying to reach is a huge benefit of membership. You’ll soon find yourself in situations where you can identify and meet decision-makers face-to-face. Training and Education Unless you have the luxury of a training budget or can afford to bring in local, regional or nationally known experts on different topics, there’s no other organization that delivers timely programs at such an affordable price as a local or regional chamber of commerce. Networking From seminars, luncheons to business expos and various community events, there’s absolutely no excuse for not being able to meet new contacts, referrals and people who can help you with ideas and additional ways to grow your business. The old adage “out of sight, out of mind,” is so true in networking. In addition, doing business with fellow members who offer wonderful products, services, and ideas is a big plus. Business Promotion & Advertising As far as visibility at the local level, a chamber offers a wide range of free or affordable advertising options and sponsorship packages for just about every business or nonprofit, regardless of how big or small their budget may be. This is a wonderful way to hold your marketing dollars accountable and see them working hard right before your eyes. Advocacy A chamber researches, lobbies and routinely discusses with local and regional government units, politicians and the media to keep people up to date on central issues of importance pertaining to the membership and the community. What happens to your local employees and customers does have an impact on your business, even if you’re a national chain. Waterford is the perfect place to start a business, expand a business and offers a wide range of choices in residential real estate, from a starter home to your dream home. The community is a wonderful place to live, work and play. Waterford had the honor of being one of seven communities chosen to be part of the One Stop Ready program put on by Oakland County, where we shared our ideas with others and learned new best practices to utilize in the future. By being One Stop Ready, our community is ready to assist you; our Development Services Department, our elected officials, our employees, our Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce and our schools. We all collaborate together. This directory acts as a guide as to what services are offered, identifying our local businesses and the quality of life in this community. Buying local and utilizing our businesses is key to our success and sustainability of this community. We are seeking new investors to partner with us in our economic growth. Our businesses generously support and promote Waterford. Being the Treasurer of Waterford Township, I am aware of the services we offer our residents and the various amenities. Our library offers a variety of services and materials including eBook and Internet access. Our Parks and Recreation Department provides activities for all ages; from the very young to our senior citizens. And don’t forget Waterford has 34 lakes for family, fun and recreation. We need to strategically determine the direction of our community. Waterford is constantly seeking resources from within and outside our borders. We are finding partners with Oakland County, our state, and national organizations.
