Navalmal Firodia Law College 1 Self Study Report : NAAC – 1st Cycle Preface DES Shri. Navlamal Firodia Law College established in the year 2004, under the unique heritage of Deccan Education Society, seeks to be represented as a centre for holistic Legal Studies. With a revolutionary vision, we strive to impart legal education, keeping in mind that Law is a part of humanities, yet uphold the aim of empowering our students with the tools required to succeed in this noble profession. We strongly believe that “Future empires will be the empires of the mind,” and that every student’s mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled and at our college we hope to chisel a diamond out of each student. With the motto of “Making Excellence a Prevailing Attitude,” since inception, our team of dedicated educators have been aiming to stretch the sphere of teaching-learning realms through structured and well devised pedagogical tools, carefully crafted curriculum, simulation and client-based teaching, to a broad base of students from Maharashtra, all over India and foreign students particularly from Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Ghana, Bhutan, etc. The College seeks to be an ‘Ambassador of Change’, with a futuristic vision. Imparting education is not merely a duty but a solemn responsibility, which we carry out through use of cutting edge pedagogy, to carve topnotch law professionals for tomorrow and instill high ethical standards and self discipline. Our teacher-facilitators have undertaken a mammoth task of not only positively contouring the entire persona of each student, but equipping them for the challenging legal profession. Humanity faces a quantum leap forward and is encircled by technology. We face the deepest social upheaval and creative legal restructuring at several levels, by adopting a harmonious and pragmatic approach is our aim. At our institute we endeavor to balance the grass root realities with the virtual world and we attempt that under our patronage our students be infused with a strong scholastic and intellectual integrity. Navalmal Firodia Law College 2 Self Study Report : NAAC – 1st Cycle We have introduced the National Service Scheme (NSS), Agarkar Smriti State Level Debate Competition, the Lokmanya Tilak National Appellate Moot Competition, the National Seminar and Judgment Analysis Competition, sports, cultural and all the other annually conducted activities to provide opportunities for excellence. We have started the publication of our law journal through our Legal Research Cell “Fiat Justitia” and participation in “Avishkar” Competition hosted by Savitribai Phule Pune University. My gratitude is extended to the management of Deccan Education Society, for their valuable guidance and support. I particularly thank Shri Sharad Kunte, Chairman of the Society and Shri Vikas Kakatkar, Vice-Chairman, Governing Body and Council, Deccan Education Society and Chairman of our Local Management Committee, for steering us towards achieving our goals. I thank Prof. A. B. Bhide, Secretary, Deccan Education Society and all the teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedicated and untiring efforts to bring this Self Study Report into reality. Navalmal Firodia Law College 4 Self Study Report : NAAC – 1st Cycle EXECUTIVE SUMMARY AND SWOC ANALYSIS Deccan Education Society (DES) was established in 1884 and is registered under The Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950, bearing Reg. No. F-167 dated 6/10/1954, one of the oldest institutions in Pune. This institution is graced by the vision of the founding fathers Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, Mahadev Ballal Namjoshi and Vishnushashri Chiplunkar. D.E.S established various educational institutions to facilitate imparting of quality education not only though schools and colleges but also in allied fields; like Management, Law, Life Sciences, etc., with the assistance of educationists, visionaries, philanthropists and alumni. DES Shri. Navalmal Firodia Law College was established in 2004-2005 under the illustrious banner of Deccan Education Society and has the distinct advantage of having a unique heritage, which we intend to fiercely guard and cherish. The aim of our college is to follow the same tradition of our parent society and serve as a repository of the best names in the legal fraternity. With a vision and mission to make students posses strong leadership, ambition and analytical skills we strive for overall development of the students to become a strong asset of the nation and the world. The college is permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University vide letter no. C.A/3328 dated 29th September 2014. At present, the college has intake capacity of 1200 students for the various courses. The college under the able guidance of Shri Vikas Kakatkar, Vice Chairman, Governing Body and Council, DES and Chairman LMC of our college, approved Principal, teaching, non- teaching staff, caters, for the overall development of the students by promotion of various professional, co-curricular and extra- curricular activities. The college intimately interacts and has a healthy association with the alumni, industry, parents and other stakeholders. Shri. Navalmal Firodia Law College 5 Self Study Report : NAAC – 1st Cycle CRITERION I : CURRICULAR ASPECTS The college is affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University and the curriculum of all the affiliated colleges are designed and structured by the Board of Studies of Law of the affiliating University. The Board comprises of six members elected and approved faculty from the legal teaching fraternity, Our Principal Dr. Rohini Honap is member of BOS (Law) and our Faculty Dr. Pratapsinh Salunke (Asst.Prof.) is member of sub- committee of BOS (Law). Ms. Madhushree Joshi (Asst.Prof.), Dr. Pratapsinh Salunke (Asst.Prof.) and Mr. Pandurang Kotule (Asst.Prof.) are actively engaged in curriculum process for revising the syllabus of the University. Based on various suggestions, feedbacks and personal experience the curriculum is designed and is now in process of revision which is the need of the hour.
