Archaeological Investigations Project 2003 Post-Determination & Non-Planning Related Projects East Midlands LEICESTERSHIRE Blaby 3/25 (E.31.L024) SP 57609800 LE2 9TL GLEN PARVA MOAT, THE FORD, LITTLE GLEN ROAD An Archaeological watching Brief at Glen Parva Moat Hyam, A Leicester : University of Leicester Archaeological Services, 2003, 7pp, refs Work undertaken by: University of Leicester Archaeological Services There was high potential for buried archaeological remains as the site incorporated a moat which is a Scheduled Monument. A shallow pathway 0.15 to 0.2m in depth was excavated in a circular route to the west of the Moat revealing mid grey-brown topsoil on top of grey-brown silty loam subsoil. No archaeological features were observed. Foundations for a site access bridge and gates were also excavated revealing dark brown silty loam above the natural substrate of orange-brown silty clay. No archaeological features or deposits were recorded. No archaeological deposits were identified, with artefacts being restricted to occasional unstratified finds of Potter's Marston ware, probably from manuring of the fields. These finds were restricted to the south of the area. Hayward, R & Smith, D Leicester : TR Projects, 2003, 6pp, colour pls, figs Work undertaken by: TR Projects A watching brief recorded the areas which were to be effected by the renovation of a post-medieval house. Proposed work involved the removal of a modern, art deco style fireplace and a modern staircase as well as stabilising the walls in the west gable of the house. Recording revealed that at 'some time in history' the western part of the house may have contained a small hearth use for industrial activity at first floor level. A small patch of cobbles was recorded at the western end of Chestnut Lane in front of the extant garages. There was no dating evidence for the surface, which was recorded at a 1m depth below the road level. No evidence of archaeological deposits or features was encountered; three sherds of late 17th or early 18th century pottery, probably from Chilvers Coton were discovered. [Au(adp)] Archaeological periods represented: MO Archaeological Investigations Project 2003 Post-Determination & Non-Planning Related Projects East Midlands 3/37 (E.31.L051) SP 84909280 LE16 8SF GREAT EASTON: BIG DIG Time Team Big Dig: Archaeological Investigation, Great Easton, Leicestershire Priest, V & Cooper, N Leicester : University of Leicester Archaeological Services, 2004, 54pp, pls, figs, tabs, refs Work undertaken by: University of Leicester Archaeological Services The Time Team Big Dig was undertaken within the village of Great Easton. The test pitting revealed evidence of occupation and settlement dating back to the late Roman through to the early Anglo-Saxon through cobbled surfaces and artefacts. Artefactual material included, late Iron Age and Anglo-Saxon pottery. Saxo-Norman and Medieval activity was also widespread throughout the village identified through artefacts and medieval plot boundaries. Coward, J Leicester : University of Leicester Archaeological Services, 2003, 7pp, figs, refs Work undertaken by: University of Leicester Archaeological Services An archaeological topographical survey was carried out in advance of the renewal of a water main. In addition, a small watching brief was carried out at the present pumping station south of Illston. The topographical survey recorded the remains of earthworks which might have been disturbed during the pipeline works. However, the watching brief located no significant archaeological remains or material.
