TEXAS HIGHLAND LAKES UNIT NEWSLETTER January 15, 2017 - March 15, 2017 Prepared by Debbie Trimble, Correspon din g Secretary Visit THLU.org President's Message If you are reading this message then you have made it through the holidays, survived the entrance into 2017, and maybe are considering how many trips you will take on with your Airstream! Debbie and I had a very relaxing Christmas Day with my mom at my sisters home in Carrollton. Mom is 96 and still going strong. I hope to be able to bring her to one of our rallies this year. Our next rally at Brazos Bend State Park is fast approaching. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that the weather is significantly better than what we had to deal with on Friday and Saturday of the Christmas rally! I think we all had a good time and good food. We also raised a nice sum of money for the Shriner's Hospital Galveston, Ronald McDonald House Galveston, and the Salvation Army of Austin. These were the charity groups that were voted on at the November business meeting. Marty is in the process of getting the funds to these organizations. Thank you for opening up your hearts and wallets and helping out these folks. A special thanks to Jim Latham for being the auctioneer once again. You do a fantastic job! I want to mention another very important upcoming event. The Region 9 rally begins on March 20th. Our past President Grady Ferry and wife Keith are spearheading this rally and they need our help and participation. If you haven’t already registered for this event, I hope you will seriously consider doing so if at all possible. They have put a ton of work into making this a great week. Even if you can’t make the entire week, try to come for a few days. Debbie and I will be attending International in Escanaba, MI this July. This will be our first. We didn’t get a site with hookups but do have a generator site. We’ll manage! After the rally we thought we would travel across the Upper Peninsula and over to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. We have volunteered there the past two summers. If you are going to be up there, maybe we could put together an unofficial caravan. We will be seeing some very interesting sites on the way over. It will be the peak season and we will need to make reservations for campsites along the way and around the Lakeshore area. Might be fun! Debbie and I want to say many thanks to Jean Beebe for updating the THLU Membership List, Directory, Birthday and Anniversary list for 2017. Debbie will be sending the online directory this week. We will still have a paper pocket directory that will be coming from Mike Lovell. Thanks, Mike, in advance. We still need a Membership and Caravans Chair.
