As a strong believer in the strong mind in a strong body concept, Homenetmen provides the Armenian American youth with moral, physical and social education. In essence, it exposes the youth to the wealth of the Armenian culture and heritage and at the same time prepares outstanding and law abiding Armenian American citizens. Homenetmen is a worldwide organization with one hundred chapters and over 25,000 members on ve continents. Homenetmen originated in Constantinople on November 16, 1918, aer the end of the First World War. e primary objective of Homenetmen, during the early years, was to assist orphaned victims of the rst Genocide of the twentieth century survive. In the United States, the rst Homenetmen chapter was initiated in New York and the rst Homenetmen Athletic “Olympic” Games took place in Brooklyn, New York in 1922. e rst Western USA chapter was established in Los Angeles, in 1968. Today, Homenetmen, Western USA has 19 chapters, 7,000 volunteer members and tens of thousands of supporters. e Glendale “Ararat” chapter with over 2,300 volunteer members oers year long Athletics, Scouting, Cultural, Educational, Public Relations, Fund Raising, Wellness, Alumni and Parent activities to the community it serves.
