SISSA COLLOQUIUM Licia Verde PRECISION COSMOLOGY TURNS 20 TRIESTE | 11st December 2013 The COBE satellite announced and published the observation of the primordial seeds of cosmic structure about 20 years ago. The 2006 Nobel Physics prize recognized these results as “the inception of cosmology as a precise science”. Since COBE, cosmology has been hit by an avalanche of data: representative portions of the observable Universe are being mapped out in details and extremely ambitious surveys are being planned for the future. Licia Verde will discuss what has been learned from precision cosmology and speculate on what the future might hold. LICIA VERDE WHEN 11st December 2013 03:30 PM ICREA Professor at tge Institute of Cosmological Sciences (ICC) UB-IEEC - Barcelona (Spain) Adjunct professor at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo (Norway) SISSA, Aula Magna WHERE Licia Verde is an astrophysicist with interest Via Bonomea, 265 in cosmology. Her research topics include Trieste (Italy) theoretical cosmology, cosmic microwave background, large scale structure, galaxy clusters, statistical applications and data analysis. She is interested in the study of the large-scale structure of the Universe and in the analysis of galaxy surveys. Licia Verde is involved with several projects: she is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III, the EUCLID science working group, the BPOL (COrE) science working group and the LSST large scale structure study group. Licia Verde is also editor of the new “Physics of the Dark Universe” journal. [email protected] 040-3787557 INFO WWW.SISSA.IT.
