Waimak United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 27th July 2018 waimakunited.org.nz Photo Credit: Mak Shots COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Waimak United would like to welcome Parklands United to Kendall Park this Saturday to kick off against our two CCL men’s teams. First up is our CCL Reserves at 12.30pm followed by the Men’s CCL team at 2.30pm. Good luck and we wish the teams all the best. This month we have hosted the Alan Fraser Memorial Tournament which saw our girl’s teams kick off against teams from around Christchurch and the South Island. It was a fantastic weekend of football and we look forward to hosting the 14th Grade Girls teams for the South Island Tournament in October. We also had teams competing in the Christchurch International Cup in Christchurch as well as some of our players competing in the National Youth Futsal Tournament; well done to them all. We held a Fundraising dinner at CBK in Kaiapoi. It was a great night out with great food and company. Hamish and the staff at CBK were fantastic and at the end of the evening we were presented with a cheque for $500 for monies raised from our loyalty card program. We have a couple more fundraisers coming up before the end of the season, including a social fundraiser at Inflatable World on Sunday 12th August and a Quiz night at CBK Kaiapoi on Monday 20th August; great fun and entertainment for everyone! We would also like to say congratulations to Gabi Rennie who is on her way to France to compete in the FIFA U-20 World Cup for New Zealand and to Duncan Reed for being named goal keeping coach for the team. Finally we wish Kayla Thomas all the best as she leaves for the States to play. We wish them all the very best. All the best to our teams playing in and around Christchurch. Welcome back to our First Kicks, Fun Football and Mini Football teams who have had a well deserved break over the holidays. A warm welcome to the Parkland coach's and players. After a positive result and great team performance on Saturday, with the stand out being Finn Caddie in goal with 2 or 3 top quality saves and all up 17 (alleged) saves. The team went away against the top team Halswell and gained a point and will be looking to build on that and get the 3 points this weekend. Parklands have been somewhat of a bogey team for us this season, with us losing the 3 games played against them. We know they are a team that will battle and give 100% to get the win and we will have to match that to come out of the game on top with a win. The boys know that if they play football like they can and to their potential as proven many times this season, there is no reason why the team cannot win the remaining three fixtures to give the team a good chance of finishing third! Hope to see all the Waimak faithful down to support the team as normal. The girls know there is still a lot to play for against a strong Cashmere Technical side, that will be looking to finish their season off on a high. For us we still have hopes of overtaking Tech on the table and this match will serve as a platform for us before we take on Halswell next weekend in the Rita Fitzpatrick semi final. In this match we must bring a strong determination, aggressive attitude and maintain focus for the full course of the match, as short lapses in concentration have cost us in the past. Finally best of luck to Kayla, Gabi and Duncan who have all departed for the tail end of the season. Kayla has begun her travel to the States to begin her new journey with her college side. While Gabi and Duncan are both settling in France for the U20 World Cup, which kicks off in just over a week.
