AP classes are rigorous, full-year college-level classes intended to prepare students for the highest level of college success. Each AP class ends with a national exam for potential university credit. • What courses are available at Mountain View (based on enrollment)? No. They are free. However, the national AP exam costs $94. Colleges do not charge for credits earned from AP exams. • Do I have to take the AP exam? Yes. AP students are expected to take the national exam in May. University credit can only be earned on the national exam. • How do I earn college credit from an AP exam? Students receive a score of 1 (no recommendation) up to 5 (highest recommendation). To find out AP credit and placement policies at many colleges and universities, go to www.collegeboard.org/ap/creditpolicy. • How do I sign up for an AP course? Pay attention to any prerequisites there may be for the AP course you are interested in taking. Put the course on your registration form and see the teacher for details. Dual Enrollment Classes: • What are DE classes? Dual Enrollment classes are community college classes taught at Mountain View during our regular school day. Students have the option to earn high school and community college credit at the same time. Arizona universities accept most DE credits, but students should check with all schools and the program of study to which they will apply. • What DE courses are available at Mountain View? (Offerings may change as late as August 2019. Courses dependent upon instructor availability.) Students will pay the current community college tuition per credit plus a registration fee. (Tuition is $85 per credit*, plus a $15 registration fee, per semester. *Tuition and Fees are subject to change. Tuition assistance may be available, based on financial need.) • How do I sign up for a DE course? Sign up for the course on the MVHS registration form. On the first day of class in the fall, the teacher will provide the community college registration form and instructions for tuition payment. The ACCUPLACER test must be taken prior to the first day of school. • Do I have to take a placement test to enroll in a DE class? Yes. • What if I want to take EN101/EN102 at the community college campus? Students are not allowed to take ENG101/EN102 at the community college and earn high school credit because it is offered on our campus.
