This is the birthplace of Shivaji, the founder of the Marat Empire. Shivnery's history has been known as a place of Buddhist rule since the 1st century AD. Its caves, rock architecture and water system indicate the presence of housing since the 1st century AD. This fort was used mainly to guard the old trade route from Desh to the port city of Kalyan. This place passed to the Sultanate of Bahmani after the weakening of the Delhi Sultanate in the 15th century, and then passed to the Sultanat Ahmadnagar in the 16th century. In 1595, a Marathi leader named Maloji Bhonsle, shivaji Bhosale's grandfather, was included by Ahmadnagar Sultan Bahadur Nizam Shah and gave him Shivnery and Chaban. Shivaji was born in Fort on February 19, 1630 (some accounts place it 1627), and spent his childhood there. Inside the fort is a small temple dedicated to the goddess Shiwai Devi, after whom Shivaji was named. English traveler Frase visited the fort in 1673 and found it invincible. He said the fort was well prepared to feed thousands of families for seven years. The fort came under the control of British rule in 1820 after the third Anglo-Maratha War. Shivneri Architecture is a hill fort with a triangular shape and has its entrance from the southwest side of the hill. The official website of Junnar Tourism Parachar Agrotourism site Shivaneri Fort detailed article obtained from Funded Rs 1crore by RUSA, Deccan College and Sahya Giribhraman Sanstha create the first of its kind collection site from the Shivaji era After waiting more than a decade, the museum is set to come up in Shivnery Fort in Hunnara, about 95 km. Once the work is finished, the museum will be the first of its kind to be created on the fort. The work will be done by Deccan College, Pune, and Junnar-based Sahyadri Giribhraman Sanstha which raised demand in 2007. Archaeologists say Junnar has great historical significance that many people do not know and the museum will serve this purpose. Some sites in Junnar were excavated more than a decade ago, and interesting aspects of the place have been identified, said Deccan College Vice Chancellor Wasant Shinde. Shinde said Junnar traded with the Roman in previous days and Junnar's Naneghat was the prime route. At that time, Kalyan had a port, and the road from Junnar to Kalyan was cut as soon as possible to facilitate trade, he said, adding that during this period the road extended to Head and Pitan- other shopping centers. He added that there had been strong evidence that the place was one of the economic capitals. In addition, there are other aspects of the Stone Age in the area. About 200 Buddhist caves have been found in the area, which is very unique to have such a large concentration in one place, Shinde told the Mirror. The Vice-Chancellor added that Buddhist monks and locals maintain a very close relationship in the area. The number of bowls used by monks and other artifacts shows how Buddhism has flourished in the region. There are Stone Age tools and weapons found during excavations that have been preserved. He also said that Junnar had recently been known for the birth and achievements of Marathi warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Fort Shivnery. Junnar has acquired a lot of tourist and historical significance recently. Given the proximity to Mumbai and Pune, the museum will serve the purpose of spreading knowledge about the area, Shinde said. It is planned that the museum, in the holding of artifacts of the Shivaji era and others, will be exhibited in Amberhan Shivner Fort, and at the foot of the fort will be created another information center. The museum in Amber will make it the first of its kind, which will be created in the premises of the fort in the state. The town hall at the foot will be transformed to create an information center that will have other information from the Stone Age and Buddhist culture, Shinde said. Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) provided funds of 1 billion rubles for the creation of the museum. Sahyadri Giribhraman Sanstha President Sanstha Sanjay Khatri said: There are many artifacts and collections of the Shivaji era that locals have and will present for public display, he added.
