Now that the summer is rapidly approaching, I encourage you to consider doing an internship to get experience in your field of study while, hopefully, making some money as well. At St. Thomas University we make it extremely easy for you to have access to, apply, and find an internship. We have the industry’s latest career management tool (Handshake) to ease the process for you. Upload your résumé and a cover letter to get started. Currently, there are 1,618 internships posted in Handshake. By location, 100 internships are located in Miami, and 30 internships are in Ft. Student Lands her Dream Summer Internship with Unilever Arianna Lupi is a third-year international student from Venezuela majoring in International Business. She is a full time student and part time student assistant to the University’s Marketing Director. When the quest for Summer Internships came, she properly constructed her resume and cover letter using the help of Cristina López from Career Services. During the application process she realized how important having an admirable resume, an attractive LinkedIn Profile, and a great cover letter was. After applying to about a dozen different internships all over the country, she received an interesting invitation. Unilever invited her to interview in Burlington, Vermont with all expenses covered. Unilever is one the world's largest consumer goods company, available in 190 countries and with over 400 brands such as Dove, Lipton, Pond’s, Suave, Ben & Jerry’s, and Vaseline, to name a few. Unilever’s internship application process was made of three steps, the first step was a series of online games, which helped Arianna identify her strengths and suitability for the program. Step two was a video interview in which they allocated Arianna to function-specific projects and asked her to talk about what she would do in certain situations which could arise on a typical day at Unilever. She was required to demonstrate high standards of performance in judgment, drive, and influence. The third and last stage of the process was an interview at Unilever’s Seventh Generation office located in Burlington, Vermont. To prepare for the internship, Arianna made sure she had the proper business attire, styled her hair and makeup in a conservative way, and took several copies of her resume. The interview consisted of a full day of activities as well as a one-on-one interview with the business leader for her function. She had to work in real life Unilever cases and find possible solutions for the company’s issues along with other prospects for the position. During the trip, travel accommodations were made for her and all expenses were reimbursed. After the experience, she greeted and thanked every Unilever recruiter for dedicating their time, for giving her the opportunity, and allowing her to live such an incredible experience. A week later, she received a call from the recruiters offering her the position for the Digital Marketing internship. The program is a 10 week full-time paid internship that includes housing benefits. During the internship, Arianna will be given a big project that will be evaluated by her superiors. Based on her performance and success, she could be offered a full time position in any of Unilever’s offices around the world. More importantly, she will gain incredible hands-on experience by working in one of the world’s leading consumer goods companies. Moreover, with so many different places to start, and such a variety of places to go, there is no way to tell how far a career at Unilever could take someone. What helped Arianna the most to get her dream internship was always believing she was capable, and doing the best she could. Arianna’s first recommendation for any interview students perform, is for students to try to make a difference and give their best. Second, to take advantage of all of the resources the school has to offer, such as Career Services, the Bobcat Dress for Success Closet, Career Expos, Information Sessions, presentations and any mentoring opportunities or recommendation letters from professors. Third, she recommends students to be ahead of the game, to set your standards high, and to have confidence in yourself. She believes opportunities don't just happen, one needs to create them. Upon graduation in 2019, Arianna plans to stay in the U.S. and gain professional experience in the business field. Eventually, Arianna would like to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in Marketing or in Data Analytics. 3 AROUND CAMPUS Getting to Hired!
