WHY AVERETT? 1. QUALITY EDUCATION A quality education and the student experience is priority No. 1 and evident every day. This university is: l Faithful in supporting each student while challenging them to give and be his or her best. l Devoted to small classes taught by highly qualified and attentive professors. l Loyal in our academic philosophy, which is centered on student learning, experience and success. l Focused on the small-college experience within a close, safe and caring community. l Dedicated to rigorous academics that will graduate students of ability and conviction. l Committed to a rich student life of athletics, student clubs and activities and performing arts. l Attentive to improving the student experience with a focus on personal atten- tion and excellence of services and resources. l Steadfast in maintaining our high graduate placement rates into jobs and graduate schools. 2. AFFORDABILITY A college education is expensive … we don’t have to tell you that. But it should not be out of reach! Averett makes a quality education affordable by: l Awarding approximately $20 million in total in financial aid and scholarships to our students (our spending on financial aid has increased three times faster than our spending on operating expenses over the past decade). l Generously giving financial aid to 99% of our full-time undergraduate stu- dents and by designing scholarship packages that lower the cost of attending by almost 40% for most students. No student pays the full cost to attend Averett. l Soliciting financial supporters of Averett – our graduates, foundations, donors and friends – continue to help us pay our operating costs and provide student scholarships. l Increasing tuition annually by only 4% compared to the national average of 8% at most colleges and universities. l Keeping costs down – students’ costs at Averett are less than those of 80% of other private colleges in Virginia. l Consulting with families individually to maximize aid and set up workable payment options. 3. PRESTIGE Averett is ranked as a top tier Regional College in the 2011 Best Colleges guide from U.S. News & World Report. Averett rated particularly well in these catego- ries: l 76% of Classes Under 20 Students l 12 to 1 Student to Faculty Ratio l 83% of Faculty Who are Full-time l 38% Minority Students 2015-16 Averett Men’s Basketball Fan Guide www.averettcougars.com l 3 3 COLOR BLUE BLACK AND WHITE 2 COLOR, WHITE BG 2 COLOR, BLUE BG 2 COLOR, GOLD BG 1 COLOR, WHITE BG 1 COLOR, BLUE BG 1 COLOR, GOLD BG REMOVE BACKGROUND BEFORE PRINTING REMOVE BACKGROUND BEFORE PRINTING Being a student-athlete at Averett University is more than going to class during the week and making big plays on game day.
