The all crime and anti-social behaviour rates are above average, however, compared with other urban areas in Cornwall; The volume of crime is increasing, but at a slower rate than other large towns. The increase is mainly being driven by rises in offences such as violence without injury and Criminal Damage; The volume of anti-social behaviour has stayed fairly stable (a small reduction of 4%), which is consistent with the trend across other large towns. The rate of reported Street Drinking incidents is reducing which opposes the trend seen across the other towns. The area has a significantly higher rate of recorded domestic abuse than the average for other large towns in Cornwall and this is consistent with previous years; Using prevalence estimates from the Crime Survey for England and Wales, we can estimate that 680 people in Camborne were victims of domestic abuse in the last 12 months, of which two thirds were female and a third male; Camborne has seen a rise in the number of rapes reported (12 offences, which equates to 80%), which is a greater rate of increase than that seen in Cornwall and other town areas – increases of 50% (100 offences) and 58% (154 offences) respectively. The rate of these offences in Camborne is also above average when compared with other urban areas. Street Drinking makes up 6% of all reported anti-social behaviour incidents, which is a slightly lower proportion than that seen in other urban towns (8%); Based on national estimates, we would expect there to be 240 dependent drinkers in the Camborne town area, making up 1.5% of the population. There are 55 people in alcohol treatment in the town, which equates to just under 1 in 4 of the dependent drinkers estimate, slightly lower the average for other large towns (27%); The clustering of alcohol-related crime is illustrated in the hotspot map and shows that there are concentrations in the main high street, which is the area most associated with the night time economy; There is a secondary hotspot situated around the police station in the town. This is mainly due to alcohol-related assaults on police officers, most likely linked to the custody suite. What residents say In 2017, Cornwall Council commissioned a large scale residents’ survey which is now planned to take place every 4 years. With 11,247 responses, this was the largest survey conducted by the Council since the 2008 Place Survey. 1,135 residents in the area responded to a range of questions about their satisfaction with Council services and the way things are run, alongside detailed questions about their community, perceptions of crime and safety and their own health and wellbeing.
