S. of Reepham, and 10 N.W. of Norwich, in Eynsford hundred and St. Faith's union, diocese and arch deaconry of Norwich, rural deanery of Sparham, and county court district of Aylsham. The parish contains 2,197 acres. The Hall is a beautiful mansion surrounded by a park, woods, and fertile grounds. The church, St. Mary, is an old building with square tower, containing two bells. The living is a vicarage, and is consolidated with the rectory of Little Witchingham, in the incumbency of the Rev. William Howard, B.C.L., who has about 36 acres of glebe land and residence. The tithes of Great Witchingham are commuted for £262 to the vicar, and £488 to the Masters and Fellows of New College Oxford, who are the appro­ priators and patrons and lords of the manor. The Wesleyans and Primitive Methodists have each a chapel here. Here is also a National school. One mile south of the church is the hamlet of Lenwade. The population in 1871 was 640.
