Sir Nicholas Grimshaw Born October 9, 1939 Studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1959-1962 Studied on Scholarship at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. Travelled on scholarship to to Sweden and United States. Graduated from the Architecture Association in 1965 with honours. Partnered with Terry Farrell working with him for next 15 years. International Terminal Waterloo North Woolwich Pumping Station (Architects of the New Millenium) EVA- Environmentally Viable Architecture EVA is a tool used by Grimshaw to determine the impact that a building will have on the envi- ronment from the birth of the concept. Eden Project- This is considered to be one of the most innovative Millennium projects. It is currently the lightest and largest plant enclosure in the world. When the project was planned it was to accomodate about 650,000 people a year. It has accomodated nearly 2 million. From the materials used to the landscape measure con- sidered with this structure it is definitely worth studying in detail and learning from. The Aerogenerator/Eco Rainforest Aerogenerator- A windpower concept which is currently being tested. Eco Rainforest- This is a proposal for future ways to deal with waste. A greenhouse would house plants and animals of the rainforest using heat from decomposition and domestic waste. The concept of the rainforest would be main- tained during warmer months by direct heat gain. During the cooler months the heat could be extracted from the decomposition piles- thus maintaining the environment necassary. This would take care of local needs in multiple ways, decomposing garbage can be utilized, a place of study for local schools can be created also exotic foods can grown locally saving thousands of transportation miles. Water Theatre at Las Palmas This theatre utilizes the unique landscape. The beaches with their steep sides and the warm constant winds create the opportunity to al- low the wind to evaporate and the cool oceanic waters to condense the water again, this time without the salty taste.
