However, within a few decades, due to the efforts of astronomers such as Norman Pogson and John Evershed, the standard of astronomical research in India attracted world-wide attention. We briefly sketch the evolution of this phase through a few examples of research topics pursued here and the change of the manner in which they were pursued.
