In the UEFA administration appeal, the Galatasaray SK player Akman Ayhan was declared innocent of any wrongdoing in the incident with AS Roma’s Francesco Totti. The appeal was withdrawn after evidence clearly showed that Ayhan had no involvement in the incident. The AS Roma player Francesco Totti has had his three-match ban reduced to two matches. AS Roma player Francisco Lima has had his three-match ban reduced to one match. The sanctions of a one match ban on AS Roma’s home stadium, the Olimpico, plus the fine of 200,000 Swiss francs have been amended into a fine of 500,000 Swiss francs for the Italian club. The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body decisions against head coach Fabio Capello, suspended from the touch-line for one match, and Gabriel Batistuta, suspended for one match, remain as they were not appealed against. The disciplinary measures and the subsequent appeals ruled on today stem from the post-match incidents between AS Roma and Galatasaray SK at their UEFA Champions League Group B match on 13 March 2002 in the Olimpico stadium, Rome.
