TIMESCAPE PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Gregory Benford | 416 pages | 09 Mar 2000 | Orion Publishing Co | 9781857989359 | English | London, United Kingdom TIMESCAPES Soundtrack - Nigel John Stanford Sep 30, C. This was a great installment for the series, but I only gave three stars because Liparulo got too religious for a bit. While the family's religious preferences are clear in the first three books, in Timescape, the author includes an entire section where the brothers question their religion and discuss it with each other. While the boys are at the right age to start questioning these things, it was handled awkwardly. It seemed to be plopped in for no reason and pulled me out of the Dreamhouse This was a great installment for the series, but I only gave three stars because Liparulo got too religious for a bit. It seemed to be plopped in for no reason and pulled me out of the Dreamhouse world. It didn't seem to add anything to the story at all. Beyond that there are the usual complaints of Xander's immaturity and constant insubordination without consequence and the sexist way they all the men in the family treat the daughter. But those have not so far taken away from the good of the story too much. Hopefully the remaining two books will not include such weird proselytizing. Dec 15, LeeAnn rated it really liked it. So, one of the strange and amazing things about my library is that we don't always have every book in a series. In fact, sometimes we have just book one -- or in this case, just book four. For me, then, the story began already in full swing! I had to pick up background on the characters as I was reading, and grab former plot points as current plot points flew by. And that was the most amazing part of this book, to me: it FLEW! The reader certainly has no time to get bored -- or to set the book So, one of the strange and amazing things about my library is that we don't always have every book in a series. The reader certainly has no time to get bored -- or to set the book down. Considering that this was book four, and I started the series here, I love the characters and how interwoven into the crazy plot the characters' love for family is. That is the strength of this book, for me. Yes, it's quite action-packed. But the best part is the characters' connection to family. Well done. Oct 21, Kris rated it really liked it Shelves: adventure , young-adult. The action that was lacking in the previous books is definitely here in this fourth part of the Dreamhouse Kings series. The King family run headlong from one crisis to another; the bad guys attack them in their own house; the boys and their father nearly get killed by the natives in the future; they nearly drown escaping from the capsizing Titanic and almost get slaughtered by Viking berserkers. We find out more about the history of the house itself, and about the King family's ancestors. And The action that was lacking in the previous books is definitely here in this fourth part of the Dreamhouse Kings series. And the book ends with excellent cliffhangers for both Xander and David! More time traveling and looking for Mom. Jesse has been hurt and might not make it. Dad continues to let the kids run wild making bad decisions bad parenting. They decide to follow Taksidian to see where he lives and who he talks to. Dad ends up trailing him in the car while the boys stay back to break in a house. As expected, it turns out bad. Sep 16, Aaron rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy , ya. Another solid installment in the series, a very fast pace that picks up exactly where book 3 ended. Xander is still an annoying protagonist, making more and more reckless and unbelievable choices. I'm pretty invested at this point to see where the story goes so I will continue. It was ok not good but ok. I didn't really think these books are for me. And I was right. Jan 27, Karen rated it really liked it. Seriously, why did I think this was the last one? Oct 07, Moriah rated it it was amazing. Jan 19, Chris rated it it was amazing. I'm loving this series. It gets better and better with each book. Or even making strides torwards finding her. Final Rating: 4. I'm so glad I didn't give up on this series, this book was definitely my favorite of all of them! They started out pretty low, but as I expected they've perked up as the books go on. Only 2 more left! Whenever I think about this series in general after I finish one of the books, I feel myself grunting and thinking of how I'm trying to get it over and done with so I can move on. It's weird, I know. This book kept me on Final Rating: 4. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I mean, you know that none of the Kings are going to die, there are 2 more books about the series and this series isn't the type that would kill off any of the main characters. Either way, though, it's fast-paced and exciting and leaves you wanting to flip to the back of the book to find out what happens. I didn't do that, as I read it on my Kindle, but trust me I wanted to. Especially towards the end. I feel like the series really didn't start until this book, the 4th book, because the others were a bit the usual and we weren't learning much, just meeting new characters. THIS one, however, holds no new characters. It's them actually getting something done. What amazes me is how all of these things are occurring in the time span of a FEW days. Like, whoa. Every day is like half a book, haha. I just really wish this series wasn't so long. If it was a trilogy, I would probably like it a LOT more. But I just hate having to pay 10 bucks for a little book that's about pages, and there are 6 books in the series. Anyways, about the content of the book. There were a few parts that I found unbelievably cheesy, but other than that it was good! I usually don't list every single thing that irked me about the book when it's the middle of a series, so I may be missing some things, but I'm rating it a good ole' 4. I really don't need to complain much, seeing as the book was pretty darn good. Sometimes, though, the Kings could be so dumb. Haha, when view spoiler [ they followed Taksidian at the end, and David said he felt a sense of deja vu and that something wasn't right, I was like. He probably knows they're tailing him! I finished this book in less than one day, seeing as I started it in the afternoon and it's 2am now. I feel a bit unfair, rating it only 4. And I'm not a huge fan of the series in general either, but this book made it look a lot better, in my opinion. Oct 08, Lori Twichell rated it it was amazing. Were back again. In the house thats haunting the King family. Not really haunting maybe. It feels more like hunting. When we last left our favorite family, they were all in mortal danger. Liparulo is really good at that and I still have two more books to go. Ive got to wonder what could possibly come after this. First I suppose I should start with the opening page of the book. So, as I was saying, when we last left our favorite family, they were all in mortal danger. The boys, dad and Keal were all in the future world where they discovered everything was not peaceful or quiet. And time yes somewhere, somehow time became a character in and of itself decided Grandma was not where she belonged and needed to go back into the house. But he handles it was such grace that he allows the characters to address the craziness of their situation. At one point in this book, David is mourning the loss of his favorite shoes in the Civil War. I love this. This helped me settle back into a balance where I could continue enjoying the adventures. In this book, we learn a lot about how the house works, where it came from and how to deal with time, but there are still a lot of questions. How does the house work? How do you get back to specific worlds? There are no missteps here. Questions are posed but answers are given. We leave our favorite family in much the same element of danger with uniquely different circumstances. Review copies provided by Thomas Nelson.
