The local midfielder took out 34 votes in the CHFL Best and Fairest – marking the league’s second highest total in a single season. Campbell was nine votes clear of Rickey Ferraro from Hepburn, with Springbank’s Paul McMahon a further three behind. The 25-year-old, who was recruited from Ainslie this season, said he was pleasantly surprised to receive the honour. “If you had told me that I was going to win – let alone by that much – I probably would have told you where to go,” he said. “It’s just crazy, I knew I had a good year but not that good”. Campbell said he had enjoyed his first season at Ballan and looked forward to continuing to play in the league. “It’s a good standard of footy here but it’s also really laid back with such a community environment. Everyone is here for a bit of fun and to enjoy themselves and it’s good to see the level of involvement from the netballers”. Meanwhile, Gordon’s Luke Toohey and Ben Beasley from Springbank shared the Reserves Best and Fairest with 21 votes, while Newlyn’s Jesse Eastwell was three behind on 18. A comfortable 34 votes saw Ballan’s senior football Shaun Campbell take out the CHFL Best & Fairest Geoff Taylor medal from Ricky Ferraro (Hepburn) on 25 votes.
